Aarya Babbar Reacts To Preteik's Decision To Drop The 'Babbar' Surname, Says, 'Wajood Nahi...'

The controversy surrounding the Babbar family won't seem to subside, and with Prateik's current statement about changing his surname, the rumours surrounding the rift have only gotten stronger. Pratiek allegedly shared a strained relationship with his father, actor-politician, Raj Babbar, and these speculations became prominent when the former didn't invite his father to his wedding. 

Aarya Babbar reacts to Prateik's decision to change his surname

Prateik's decision to drop his father's name, 'Babbar', and adopt his late mother's surname, changing his name to Prateik Smita Patil, added fuel to the fire. Now, in a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, Prateik's half-brother, Aarya Babbar, has shared his views on the decision made by his step-brother. He started by stating that Smita Patil was also his mother and that what name Prateik wanted to keep or not should be his own choice. However, he believes that no matter what name Prateik chooses to go by, he will always be a 'Babbar'. He was quoted as saying:

"I just have to say that Smita Maa is our mother too. And what name he doesn't want to keep and what name he wants to keep is his choice. Kal ko main uthke apna naam Aarya Babbar se Aarya karlun, ya Rajesh kar lun. Main tab bhi Babbar hi rahunga na. Aap apna name change kar sakte ho, wajood nahi. Rahunga toh Babbar hi becasue wajood mera woh hi hai, aap woh kaise change kar sakte ho."

Prateik Smita Patil dropped his father, Raj Babbar's surname

Prateik opened up about his reason behind dropping the 'Babbar' surname and calling himself 'Prateik Smita Patil'. In a recent conversation with The Times of India, the actor revealed his reasons behind the major change. Prateik Smita Patil revealed that he shut out all the opinions and how the decision would affect his personality and career.

He added that he simply wanted to do what makes him feel better and be happier. Prateik Smita Patil further stated that he doesn't care about the repercussions as he only wants to be associated with his mother and her legacy. He also shared that he doesn't want to be like his father, Raj Babbar. He was quoted as saying:

"I don't care about the repercussions. All I care about is the way I feel when I hear that name. I need to be wholly and solely associated with my mother, her name, and her legacy. I’m striving to be like my mother and not like my dad."

In the same conversation, Aarya Babbar has remained unfazed by the media frenzy surrounding his family's personal struggles. When asked how he managed to do so, he responded by saying, that they have been in the public eye for a while now, so its obvious that there will be speculations about them. He added that at the end of the day they were only public property. When he was further asked about being how he feels about their family's issues being addressed in the public eye. He stated:

"We are a family which is in the public eye toh bola toh jayega na. We can't really say or do anything about it. We have to be okay about it. These things are a part and parcel of being in the industry. At the end of the day we are public property. It is okay. It is a part of life. We can't really help it. Aisi cheezon ke baare mein itna zyada sochna nahi chahiye. Ek life hai, jeeyo aur mast raho."
