While red carpet events are known for celebrities’ glamorous presence, Bollywood actor, Abhay Deol, once attended a red carpet event with a black eye. It was in 2014, when the actor appeared at an award function prior to his film, One by Two. A few days back, a throwback video of Abhay Deol, resurfaced on Reddit. In the video, Abhay was seen facing the camera with a black, bruised eye. The actor was seen giving an explanation for his injury to the media.
Later, taking to his social media handles, Abhay disclosed that the black eye was the symbolic representation to express how the marketing of his film, One by Two, was hampered by T-Series. He also mentioned that while two weeks were remaining for his then-upcoming film, the song was not available on any platforms. Read on to know if Abhay's black eye was an injury or a mere publicity stunt.
Being asked about his injury by the media, Abhay stated that it was a music company that caused the injury. He also went on to explain what led to the injury. Speaking of the same, the actor said:
“Main music company se maar kha ke aa raha hoon. My film is releasing January 31. My music has not yet released because the music company wants me to get the composers Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy to sign a clause which is illegal."
The actor then went on to reveal that the music company was T-Series. When the actor was asked how the fight could be resolved, Abhay stated clearly that he didn’t want to sign any clause that was illegal. Then the actor was asked whether he actually got the injury, he said, ‘it is a metaphor’. Soon, the video of him went viral.
After the video went viral, netizens came forward to share their views. One user wrote, “Abhay is truly fearless”. Another commented, “T-series is a part of the music mafia that rules Bollywood. Abhay Deol isn't the only one they have targeted. They stopped working with Sonu Nigam, Shreya, and a few big names who tried to speak out against them.” Another user penned, “He is such a good actor with quite a brilliant filmography, and now wonder what happened to him.”

Abhay once took to his Facebook handle, and penned down a note by attaching some of his pictures showing the eye injury. He wrote that it was a makeup that got faded with time, but the cause he held was not resolved yet. Speaking of the same, the actor penned down:
“So last night I went to the Screen awards sporting a black eye. It was my way of saying visually (and symbolically) that my film's marketing has taken a hit. The make up was faded by the time I took these pictures. But my resolve has not. I got so many messages from the music fraternity thanking me.”
Years back, in 2019, Abhay shared an old picture where he had painted his eye into a black one and revealed that the status of the controversy remained the same. The actor took to his Instagram handle and penned down a note. The note consisted of why he did the makeup and what was the then scenario. He also urged people not to follow blindly what has been told by the elders. Speaking of the same, the actor penned down:
“That time when I painted my eye black to bring attention to musicians and producers rights, and showed up on the red carpet of an awards show! For a brief moment I brought the entire music industry together. It felt as though change was in the air, our strength came from our unity. Of course everyone moved on and the status remained the same, with everyone (barring only a handful of musicians) striking their own individual deals. Our tradition dictates that we follow in the footsteps of our elders and never question their motives. I say question everyone and everything. Don’t just accept what is told to you by anyone.”
