Abhijeet Bhattacharya is known for giving many hits to the industry through his playbacks in the movies of the Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan. In 2018, the singer reportedly pointed out that in Shah Rukh Khan’s film, Main Hoon Na, he didn’t get proper credits for his songs, Tumhe Maine Dekha and Main Hoon Na. In a recent interview with ANI, the singer’s remarks clearly stated that the singer still holds grudges against Shah Rukh Khan since the release of the film, Main Hoon Na.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya had lent his vocals in many films of Shah Rukh Khan including, Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, Chalte Chalte and many more. Often, Abhijeet made remarks about Shah Rukh Khan that proved that the duo was not on good terms. In a recent interview with ANI, when Abhijeet was asked about his bond with Shah Rukh Khan, he gave a sarcastic reply to the question. Addressing the bond that the duo shared, Abhijeet sarcastically said:
"We're like twins, I mean, it seems that way with the voice. Now I realize that all these songs aren't mine. Shah Rukh sang this song, Shah Rukh wrote this song, Shah Rukh composed the music, Shah Rukh made the film, Shah Rukh is the cinematographer. Everything is Shah Rukh. What can I do? People tell me it's Shah Rukh's song, and then I realize, oh, right, it's not mine. Sab kuch woh hi hai toh bhai main kya karun?”
The rift between the two started long ago, when he worked in Farah Khan’s film, Main Hoon Na, which featured Shah Rukh Khan as a lead. In 2018, the singer pointed out that during the 2004 film, Main Hoon Na, the makers of the film gave proper credit to everybody, including the spot boys, assistant hair stylists and assistant dressmakers, except the singers. He also added that it was he who made Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar of Bollywood. Addressing the same, he said:
"Mera kaam tha superstar banana mere awaz se. Till the time I sang for Shah Rukh, he was a rockstar. When I stopped singing for him - it was me who refused to sing for him - he came down to Lungi Dance."
Abhijeet Bhattacharya was once called the voice of the Bollywood star, Shah Rukh Khan. But in a conversation with ANI, Abhijeet revealed why he chose not to sing for the Badshah of Bollywood. He said that as he was not given proper credit in Shah Rukh Khan’s films, he made such a decision. Addressing the issue between them, he said:
“When self-respect is hurt, you feel like saying, 'Enough is enough.' I wasn't singing for him; I was singing for my work. But when I saw that they were acknowledging everyone--like a tea vendor who serves tea on set--but not acknowledging the singer, I felt, 'Why should I be your voice?'”
