Abhijeet Bhattacharya is one of the most popular playback singers in Bollywood. His melodious musical career spans over 6000 songs, that he has recorded for over a thousand films. He has sung some of the peppiest numbers, including Wada Raha Sanam, Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Mein, Goriya Chura Na Mera Jiya among so many others. Moreover, he has been honoured with several awards and accolades, including the MTV Asia Award, Filmfare Award For Best Playback Singer, Sangeet Maha Samman and others.
In a recent interaction with Lehren Retro, Abhijeet Bhattacharya spoke about his experience of working with AR Rahman. He recalled the latter had called him for recording a particular song for the film, Rangeela. Abhijeet mentioned that Udit Narayan had already sung that song in advance, and AR Rahman told him that his voice would be used differently. However, soon Abhijeet realised that Rahman had no method of working, and was doing everything in patches, as the former had to wait for long hours in the hotel lobbies with no work getting done. He mentioned:
“They called me saying the song has been changed, and since Udit has already sung for the character, your vocals will be used in a different way. I realised that this is not a place for music. He was just recording patches. There was no method to the work.”
