Abhishek Bachchan announced his upcoming film, Raja Shivaji, on the big screen, which shows the extraordinary life led by 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj'. The film features Bollywood actor, Riteish Deshmukh as Maharaj 'Chhatrapati'. It also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. Genelia Deshmukh has also produced the film. However, another interesting part of the film is that it was half directed by Riteish himself.
On May 21, 2025, the team of Raja Shivaji launched the movie's grand poster. The first look of the film was greeted with applause and a hailing of Maharaj Chhatrapati Shivaji and his bravery. Sharing the poster, the team gave out their tribute to India's legendary warrior king. The caption can be read as:
"Privileged and honored to present a cinematic tribute to India’s legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj 1 May 2026 Jio Studios & Mumbai Film Company come together to present this epic saga! Directed by Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh. Starring - Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, Genelia Deshmukh and Ritesh Vilasrao Deshmukh. The film will be released next year on the first of May in six languages, including Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The poster features Bollywood actor, Riteish Deshmukh standing right in the middle of a battlefield as 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj'. He held the glorious swords in both of his hands, and they were completely drenched in blood.
It is worth mentioning that the details of the film have not yet been made public, and there is a lot of suspense related to the roles and the storyline. According to the makers, the film also features Fardeen Khan, Sachin Khedekar, and Genelia Deshmukh. Another important highlight of the film is that the makers chose to release the film on Maharashtra Day next year. The bilingual film music was composed by Ajay-Atul.
As soon as the poster of Raja Shivaji was dropped, netizens greeted it with a lot of love. One user wrote, "Perfect casting.. Perfect director." Another commented, "Ritesh Deshmukh as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj goosebumps already! And with Ajay-Atul back in charge of the music, you know it’s going to hit the soul of Maharashtra! Missed their vibes in 'Chaava,' but this one’s gonna be FIRE! History, pride, and pure Marathi fire let’s go!" A third user penned, "A moment of pride and honour. As we unveil the of Raja Shivaji, emotions run high. Portraying the courage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, brought to life by Riteish Deshmukh, this film is more than cinema—it’s a tribute to our roots."

Apart from the lovers, some questioned how the same concept is remade. One user pointed, "Bore ho gye yaar ek hi cheez bar-bar koi aur concept choose karo." Another penned, " Another one questioned Abhishek, "Are you acting in and as Chhatrapati Shivaji or producing it? Been years that you have starred in a movie."
