Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have long been one of the most admired couples in Bollywood. From their strong on-screen chemistry to their off-screen romance, the duo has always set relationship goals in the film industry. Their love story, from being co-stars to husband and wife, has been all about love, respect and companionship. But, recently, the rumours about an alleged rift between the couple and a possible split left their fans worried. Amid the online chatter and concerning headlines, Abhishek and Aishwarya chose to remain silent. But, their frequent appearances together suggested otherwise. Now, in a recent interview, Abhishek recalled the heartfelt moment when he proposed to his wife which has again delighted the couple's fans.

Abhishek Bachchan is on a promotional spree for his upcoming film, Kaalidhar Laapata and sat down for an interview with ETimes for the same. During the conversation, he took a trip down memory lane and recalled the emotional story of how he proposed to his now-wife, Aishwarya Rai. He revealed that the proposal happened after the premiere of his 2007 film, Guru, in New York. The actor explained that the film was not just special for his career but had also set a personal milestone for him. Abhishek, who likes to make his films explained how Guru wasn't an exception to his habit. In his words:

"I proposed to her at the premiere, after the premiere in New York. But all my films are very personal. And I ensure that. There are possibly one or two that might not be as personal. But my rule of thumb is it has to be personal. If it's not personal, then I'll probably not do it."

Abhishek, who has been a subject of multiple rumours on the internet also opened up about how he deals with negativity and false narratives about his personal life. When asked why he doesn't address the misinformation, which is often spread about him, the actor explained that the ones who are spreading the information are rarely interested in hearing the truth. Abhishek admitted that earlier, these things did not affect him, but now he has a family who gets deeply affected by such rumours. Sharing what happens when he tries to clarify things, Abhishek stated:

"Even if I clarify something, people will turn it around because negative news sells. You're not me. You don't live my life. You're not answerable to the people that I'm answerable to. People who put out such negativity have to live with their conscience. They need to deal with their conscience and answer to their maker. See, it's not just me. I don't get affected."

Amitabh Bachchan once shared how he welcomed Aishwarya after Abhishek proposed her

In an old interview with Midday, Amitabh Bachchan once recalled how Abhishek called him from New York to say that he had proposed to Aishwarya. The megastar mentioned that he told his son and Aishwarya to come home immediately. When the couple arrived, he asked the actress if she was happy and when she agreed, Amitabh welcomed her warmly into their family. Recalling the memory, Big B said:

"Abhishek and Aishwarya are fond of each other. In New York, after the premiere of Guru, Abhishek called me and said that he proposed to her. I said, 'Come on home.' I asked Aishwarya if she was happy. She said yes. I picked them up and took her home. I told her, this is your home. Humko kya lena dena hai aur kuch se?"

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai first met during the photoshoot for their film, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. They soon became friends as they worked on more films together, like Kuch Naa Kaho and Dhoom 2. However, the friendship began to turn into love when they worked in Umrao Jaan and Guru. After the premiere of Guru, the actor proposed to Aishwarya and they tied the knot in 2007. The couple welcomed a baby girl in 2011.
