'Ace' X Review: Vijay Sethupathi-Rukmini Come Together For A Predictable Yet Captivating Screenplay

Ace is a romantic crime comedy film which was released in India on May 22, 2025. Directed by Arumuga Kumar under the banner 7Cs Entertainment the film is set against a Malaysian backdrop. The film stars, Vijay Sethupathi, Rukmini Vasanth and Yogi Babu in key roles. For the unversed, the film also marks her debut in Tamil films.

Vijay Sethupathi's Ace is a blend of breezy comedy, cutesy romance and thrilling action

Ace is a bold turn from Maharaja for Vijay Sethupathi. The actor went from having our stomachs in knots with anticipation to taking away the stress, proving how brilliant he is, as an actor. Rukmini Vasanth's debut also earned praise in the Tamil film industry. While the trailer hinted at the genre-mixed chaos, it has fully delivered and played out as a full-blown entertainer for the audience. With a sprinkle of dark humour and high-stakes drama, the formula is well-tested, worked and loved when it comes to an entertainer.

Netizens react to Vijay Sethupathi's breezy entertainer

It has only been a day since the film was released, and the netizens are already hooked. The viewers have taken to X and shared their views of the film. A user penned, "After an Engaging First Half..genuinely engaging moments keep the audience more engaged than first half !! Yes, the story is predictable, but it keeps you hooked throughout with quality screenplay, which is well written and presented." Another wrote:

"#Ace 3/5 is a fun, action, laugh riot which makes no pretensions as it’s designed not to be taken seriously. There is no logic, and the humour runs throughout, and there is excellent chemistry between @VijaySethuOffl and @iYogiBabu. The one-liners and comedy are bang on! No vulgarity or violence; this is perfect for families seeking time past entertainment. @Aaru_Dir has packaged the film in a slick manner, and there are no dull moments. @rukminitweets is apt for the role. @SamCSmusic has done a good job with soothing numbers. On the whole, it’s a harmless watch this weekend."

A comment read, "#ACE - @VijaySethuOffl's film is a refreshingly fun crime comedy that's mostly lighthearted and makes for a good watch. It feels slightly bloated in length but, thankfully, has enough LOL moments to keep the proceedings going. One of those films where the hero picks brains over brawn. @rukminitweets shines in her Tamil debut with a meaty part. @iYogiBabu gets a solid part to entertain after a long time." A user in a long note said:

"What a delightful entertainer! #ACE is just what I was craving for. A pleasant, funny, simple entertainer with loads of action, romance, and comedy! A film that truly makes you forget the pressures of life and relax for a good three hours. @VijaySethuOffl looks smart, having lost a lot of weight. It delivers a neat performance. @RukminiVasanth delivers a measured performance. @iYogiBabu combines well with #VijaySethupathi to constantly provide humour!"
