Shweta is always willing to take on challenges, and she proved the same when the actress decided to film her real pregnancy and childbirth for the movie, Kalimannu. The film, which dealt with the subject of artificial insemination, featured Shweta Menon’s real pregnancy. The film garnered a lot of controversy. Mahila Morcha, the women's wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleged that Shweta had exploited motherhood for commercial purposes.
Shweta Menon is currently leading all the headlines after a case was registered against her by the Ernakulam Central Police in Kochi, Kerala. According to a report by Mathrubhumi, the complaint was filed by public activist, Martin Menachery for obscenity. In the complaint, Martin has alleged that the state award-winning actor is involved in the trade and distribution of vulgar content through adult websites.
As per Martin, Shweta has acted in the Kamasutra advertisement and films like Paleri Manikyam, Rathinirvedam, and Kalimannu, the visuals of which are doing rounds on adult websites. Shweta has been booked under Section 67(a) of the Information Technology Act for transmitting material containing sexually explicit acts in electronic form. However, the director of Kalimannu, Blessy, spoke about the case and said:
“The movie 'Kalimannu' underwent censorship before its release. If none of this was a problem then, why is it a problem now?”
The case comes in the wake of AMMA’s (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) elections, and Shweta was contesting for the position of President. With actor Jagadeesh withdrawing from the fight, Shwetha is competing in the elections against veteran actor, Devan. The case came at a moment when Shweta was looking like a likely winner. Now everyone is eagerly waiting whether Shweta will win the election with sympathy votes or will lose the half-won battle.
