Adnan Sami Says Pakistan Denied Him Visa To Attend His Mom's Last Rites 'Janaza Video Pe Dekha..'

Adnan Sami is a world-renowned singer and composer who is credited for composing popular tracks like Tera Chehra, Mahiya, Lift Karadey and more. Born in London, he is the son of Pakistani father but took Indian citizenship in 2016. He has often revealed how the deteriorating political situation in Pakistan made him take the life-changing decision despite his family and son residing there. Adnan has never shied away from talking about the issue, which often brought him criticism from authorities across the border. In a new interview, the singer shared an emotional instance of his strained relationship with Pakistan, where he wasn't allowed to attend his mother's final rites.

Adnan Sami reveals he watched his mother's final rites on a Whatsapp video 

Adnan Sami recently sat down for an interview with Rajat Sharma on his show, Aap Ki Adalat. During the conversation, he was asked if he had ever tried to visit Pakistan after becoming an Indian citizen in 2016. Adnan revealed that when his mother passed away in October 2024, he tried to visit Pakistan to attend her funeral. Adnan mentioned that his mother's demise came as a shock to everyone because she didn't had any health concerns. Recalling how Indian authorities immediately understood his situation, he said:

“Maine yaha ki sarkaar se pucha main jana chahta hu toh apko koi objection to nahi. Unhone kaha, ‘Zahir hai, aapki maa ka inteqal hua hai, aapko zaroor jana chahiye’. Unki taraf se koi problem nahi tha.”

However, after getting approval from Indian authorities, when Adnan applied for a visa in Pakistan, his request was denied. He requested that he wanted to visit Pakistan for his mother's funeral, but they didn't agree. In the end, the Tera Chehra singer had to watch his mother's funeral through a video on WhatsApp. In his words:

“Maine visa ke liye apply kiya, par unhone refuse kar diya. Maine kaha, ‘Meri maa ka inteqal hua hai’. Phir bhi unhone mana kar diya. Main nahi ja saka. Maine unka poora janaza Whatsapp ke video pe dekha.”

Adnan Sami clarified rumours about taking Indian citizenship for financial benefit 

In the same conversation, Adnan Sami was asked about the popular claim that he took Indian citizenship because he was earning more in India than in Pakistan. In his response, the singer explained that he was fortunate to be born in a wealthy family where he never had to worry about money. Consequently, he never did something just for money. Instead, he left his property worth crores in Pakistan and started everything, right from scratch in India. He said:

"An artist longs for an audience. An artist's nourishment is his audience. I received a lot of love in Pakistan, too, but everyone desires growth."
