Owen Cooper captivated the viewers with his immaculate portrayal of 'Jamie Miller' in one of the most talked-about shows of 2025, Adolescence. Owen's heart-wrenching performance in the critically-acclaimed British crime drama earned the now 15-year-old actor his first-ever Emmy nomination, making him the youngest male actor to be nominated for the award. And now, he has created history by being the youngest star to win the honour.
The honour was previously held by then 16-year-old, Scott Jacoby. The star won the Best Supporting Actor award in 1973 for his role in the made-for-TV drama film, That Certain Summer. On the other hand, the youngest actress to win an Emmy is Roxana Zal, who won the award in 1984 at the young age of 14. She won the prestigious honour for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie for Something About Amelia.
Prior to his historic win on the night of September 14, 2025 (PT), Owen Cooper sat for a candid conversation with TODAY.com about the significance of his then-potential win and what he felt about being honoured. He shared that he knows that there was a lot of pressure on him.
However, it was just a bonus and considering how well the show had done, it was a good way to end the journey. During his acceptance speech, Owen Cooper further elaborated on his win and stated:
"A couple of years back, I didn't expect to be in the United States, let alone here. Tonight proves that if you listen, you focus, and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing three years ago. I'm here now. If you step out of your comfort zone, who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible."
Owen Cooper's poignant thoughts about his role in the film were not just a snapshot of the impact that the series, Adolescence, had on him, but also on the many people the show touched. The actor went on to thank his parents, the show's creators, and Netflix. He was quoted as saying:

Co-created by and co-starring, Stephen Graham, who essays the role of Owen Cooper's character, 'Jamie's' dad, 'Eddie Miller', Adolescence is inspired by real events, which included a series of recent local stabbings. During a conversation with Tudum, he revealed that there was an incident where a young boy allegedly stabbed a girl. He revealed that the incident had shocked him and made him think about what was happening in society. He added:
"I really just wanted to shine a light on it and ask, ‘Why is this happening today? What’s going on? How have we come to this? What is happening to our young men these days, and what are the pressures they face from their peers, from the internet and from social media?"
