Romance enthusiasts have been craving a magical romantic experience on screen. While actors and directors have tried different ways to bring entertaining content to the audience, the hopeless romantics have been feeling ignored on the big screen. However, Aarti S Bagdi had decided to bring back the warmth of love with an Indo-Pak collaboration earlier this year with Abir Gulaal, but as fate would have it, the project fell through after the Pahalgam attack.
Although upset, netizens were more proud of the decision made by the makers, while bashing Diljit Dosanjh and the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 for casting Hania Aamir despite the row. Nonetheless, it seems like Abir Gulaal's makers have also decided to take a page from their book and will now be releasing the film globally, while skipping India.
For months, there have been speculations, delays and a massive controversy around Abir Gulaal's release. The film was supposed to mark Pakistani actor, Fawad Khan's much-awaited return to Bollywood. However, the tension between India and Pakistan post the Pahalgam attack in April 2025 put everything on hold. Rightfully so, the Indian citizens were appreciative of the decision. However, now the film's makers have decided to release the film globally on August 29, 2025. The film, now officially titled Aabir Gulaal, will be released across the globe while skipping India.
According to a report by Biz Asia, the film stars Vaani Kapoor as the leading lady and was originally slated for a May 2025 release. However, it met with repeated setbacks, especially after the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. In the wake of the incident, plans for an Indian theatrical release were put on indefinite hold. However, the report has now confirmed that the film will have a global release, but makes no mention of India being part of the distribution plan. It is likely that the film will skip release within the country, owing to political tensions between India and Pakistan.
Industry insiders believe that the makers of Aabir Gulaal will be following a similar strategy to Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3, which skipped Indian cinemas but scored big overseas. Whether Aabir Gulaal can replicate that success and whether the news is at all true, is yet to be confirmed by the makers. However, the news has already created a massive buzz online.

Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3 had received massive backlash from Indian fans of the singer, resulting in an uproar and boycott calls. The move left the Internet divided. However, it was Vaani Kapoor who backed Diljit in a conversation with NDTV. She stated that his film was shot before the atrocious attack, and assuming, as a producer, that his money must have been stuck in the film. She added that more than 100 technicians must have been involved in making the film, and the situation was different when the film was shot. She added:
"I don’t think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star… He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures that he thought were suitable for him. But I don’t think any laws have been broken, right?"
What are your thoughts on Aabir Gulaal being released globally?
