The Die Hard star, Bruce Willis, stepped away from acting in 2022 following a heartbreaking diagnosis. While at first the family kept the diagnosis hidden from the fans, they later revealed that the actor was suffering from frontotemporal dementia, or FTD. While the family has been with him throughout this difficult journey, the festive season can be hard on the toughest of souls, and now Bruce's daughter, Rumer, has reflected on the same.
The festive season is tough if someone is suffering in your family, but to suffer with something that isn't curable? It can be devastating. However, the Willis family has been trying to keep their spirits high, irrespective of the actor's heartbreaking diagnosis. The actress, during a Q&A session on Instagram on November 27, 2025, addressed her father, Bruce Willis's health, and shared:
"Doing OK, in terms of somebody who's dealing with frontotemporal dementia, anybody with FTD is not doing great. I'm so grateful that when I go over there, and I give him a hug, whether he recognizes me or not, that he can feel the love I've given him, and I can feel it back from him. That I still see a spark of him, and he can feel the love that I'm giving. So that feels really nice."

Bruce Willis' daughter, Rumer Willis' statement, comes hours after her mother, Emma Heming, shared how the actor's diagnosis had made things different for them as a family. The model-actress-author spoke to PEOPLE in an exclusive conversation at the End Well 2025 conference in Los Angeles on November 20, 2025. The interview was published on November 27, 2025, where Emma could be quoted as saying:
"It's joyous. It's just different. Bruce loved Christmas, and we love celebrating it with him. It just looks different, so we've kind of adapted to that. I think it's important to put Die Hard on because it's a Christmas movie."

In the same conversation, Emma Heming admitted that they had to adapt and make new memories with Bruce Willis post his diagnosis. However, she feels the joy is still there, despite the hardships. The family's life, Emma says, "is very simple, like it always actually has been." She reflected on their life now and stated:
"You have to learn and adapt and make new memories, bring in the same traditions that you had before. Life goes on. It just goes on. Dementia is hard, but there is still joy in it. I think it's important that we don't paint such a negative picture around dementia. We are still laughing. There is still joy. It just looks different. I think that just being able to be present with him is the joy. Being able to be his wife with him. Those are the moments."

Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, followed by frontotemporal dementia (FTD). However, at the time, the family didn't clarify the diagnosis; they simply said he was stepping away from acting. Nonetheless, since the revelation, Emma has raised awareness of FTD through interviews, social media, and her book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path. At the End Well 2025 conference, she discussed dementia care onstage with Yvette Nicole Brown.
