Silicon Valley is racing to make a strong footing in the artificial intelligence world. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is building his dream team for the company's newly formed Super Intelligence Lab, and to attract promising minds, he is prepared to offer substantial salaries, ranging between Rs. 800 crore and Rs. 1,600 crore. The aim is to lure artificial intelligence researchers from Apple, OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic.
For the unversed, it is reported that Meta has offered Rs. 1,600 crore compensation package to Apple's Ruoming Pang, who has now reported to have joined Mark Zuckerberg's team. This happened right after reports claimed that Meta offered Rs. 800 crore to Trapit Bansal, a former researcher at OpenAI.
It is worth mentioning that Trapit Bansal is one of the intelligent minds behind the company's O-series models. However, Meta has not officially confirmed the reports of jaw-dropping salary packages. It is worth mentioning that these salary packages include signing bonuses, stock grants and long-term vesting. They even put them on par with or even beyond the compensation earned by CEOs of major global banks.
Another thing to be noted here is that Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Super Intelligence Labs, have hired likes of Trapit Bansal and Ruoming Pang at such high salary packages earlier this month to push the company's vision into AI. The lab is led by former GitHub CEO, Nat Friedman and ex-Scale AI CEO, Alexandr Wang. Not only this, they are actively hiring top-tier researchers from competing firms.
According to further reports, Meta has hired at least 11 high-profile AI scientists, including Lucas Beyer, Xiaohua Zhai, Jack Rae, and Johan Schalwyk from Google and multiple researchers. These new teams are designed to accelerate Meta's development of artificial general intelligence, a system capable of human-level reasoning and learning.

Recently, Mark Zuckerberg also announced that his company, Meta, is building a massive AI infrastructure, including an AI data supercluster, and it will be launched online by 2026. In a long Facebook post, he described the project as part of a long-term plan to make a name in the AI race. The post also confirmed that Meta is building multiple 'Multi-gigawatt' clusters
Meta is also building temporary data centres in tents, following Elon Musk's 'tent factory' strategy, which he used during Tesla's Model 3 production rush. These makeshift facilities, equipped with prefabricated cooling modules, help Meta bring AI models online more quickly. According to Business Insider, Mark Zuckerberg is not happy with the almost no response to Meta's Llama 4 AI model, which was launched earlier this year. After which, the company has reworked its road to AI. They have taken a massive USD 14 billion investment into Scale AI for high-quality training data and the ongoing hiring spree with multi-million-dollar offers and interesting perks.
Trapit Bansal started his professional career as an analyst at Accenture Management Consulting in Gurugram. Later, he worked at IISc in Bangalore asa research assistant working on Bayesian modelling and inference methods. He has worked with Facebook, Google, Microsoft and OpenAi in roles involving deep learning for natural language processing.
