Air India Plane Crash: Eight Month Old Youngest Survivor Fights Flames As Mom Acts As Shield

When Air India IC171 from Ahmedabad to London crashed into the residential quarters of BJ Medical College, a mother stormed into action. It was on June 12, 2025, when the ill-fated flight crashed, killing 260 passengers. However, Manisha Kachhadiya, a brave mother, protected her eight-month-old infant son, Dhyaansh, with her skin as the flames tried to engulf everything around. Dhyaansh has been the youngest survivor of the crash. Despite seeing the thick smoke and extreme heat, Manisha's only instinct was to save her child.

Manisha Kachhadiya gave her skin to Dhyaansh and saved her son during the Air India plane crash

Dhyaansh and his mom, Manisha, both fought burn injuries. She gave her skin to save her eight-month-old son, and the story of the duo is heartwarming. Both survived the Boeing 787-9 crash that took place in Ahmedabad and were discharged from the hospital last week. For the unversed, Dhyaansh is Manisha and Kapil Kachhadiya's son. Kapil, reportedly, is a super speciality MCh student in Urology according to an India Today report at the BJ Medical College.

When Air India crash's youngest survivor's mom shared of thinking not being able to survive

Kapil, the eight-month-old infant's father, in an interview with PTI, shared that his wife did suffer burns, but her only aim was to save their child. Manisha did share that there was a blackout for a second, and then their residence was filled with heat. It was at that moment that she decided to grab her son and run. The thick engulfing of smoke made it nearly impossible for her to see, and the heat left both the mom and child with a lot of serious burns. Manisha shared:

"There was a moment I thought we would not make it out. But I had to, for my child. We have both been through pain I cannot put into words."

A mom's instinctive courage for her eight-month-old infant during the Air India crash saved her child. Manisha got 25% burns to her hands and face. Dhyaansh, on the other hand, suffered 36% burns on his face, both his arms, abdomen as well and chest. Both of them were taken to KD Hospital, and Dhyaansh was then immediately taken to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Dhyaansh had to be on a ventilator as breathing was difficult for him, and a blood transfusion along with fluid resuscitation. Highly specialised care for Dhyaansh's injuries was taken.

Manisha Kachhadiya donated her skin for the recovery of her son

The doctors at the hospital stated that the recovery of the child was difficult as it was a medically complex case. One of the most important parts of his treatments was the part where skin grafting was needed for the healing of his wounds. His mom offered her skin to her son, making her the universal shield of her child. Dr. Adit Desai, the Managing Director of KD hospital, revealed that the case was deeply moving. She said in an interview with The Times of India:

"It was deeply touching because of the mother's instinctive courage to save her child. From a medical standpoint, every department came together to ensure the best possible outcome. The child's own skin and his mother’s skin grafts were used to treat the burn wounds. The patient’s age was a major factor."
