'Don't Blame Your Dress..' Aishwarya Rai Breaks Her Silence On Street Harassment With Powerful Note

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is known for her acting and the way she carries herself. She is the forever 'Miss World', and people of all ages love her. Recently, Aishwarya opened up about the issue of street harassment with a popular video. She pointed out that women should not be blamed for it.

Aishwarya Rai's powerful note on street harassment

Aishwarya addressed the issue as a part of L'Oreal Paris Stand Up training program. It is a cause she has been supporting for over a decade. In the video message, shared on Instagram, Aishwarya highlighted the importance of confronting harassment rather than ignoring it.

Aishwarya further in the clip mentioned how avoiding eye contact won't be the solution, but rather that one should directly look in the eyes. She added that one should not blame their dress or their lipstick. She said:

"Avoid eye contact? No. Look the problem directly in the eyes. Hold your head high. Feminine and feminist — my body, my worth. Never compromise your worth. Do not doubt yourself. Stand up for your worth. Don’t blame your dress or your lipstick. Street harassment is never your fault."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan receives backlash for giving a social message on self-worth

In a new advertisement for a famous brand, Aishwarya gave out a social message about self-worth. She refused to let likes or social media chatter define her worth, and asked her viewers to believe it too. Aishwarya went on to address the growing influence of social media. She beautifully explained how likes, comments, and external approval don't define a person's worth. She said:

"I’m worth it, but what really decides that? The kind of pictures posted? The number of likes? Or is it the comments on social media? We have given such power to these things. The power to own our worth."

Aishwarya further expressed the grave concern as a mother and a woman on how the newer generation thinks so much about social media pressure. She addressed the power this pressure has on young minds and impressionable adults. The beauty queen further emphasised how we cannot let this go on, and make a choice.
