Meet Akansha Ranjan, A.K.A 'Dr Gargi' From 'Gram Chikitsalay': Alia Bhatt's BFF, Debuted With Dharma

Another show of Amazon Prime has gone viral after Panchayat, which is Gram Chikitsalay. The new series showcases the ups and downs of providing healthcare in rural India. The show is set in a fictional place called 'Bhatkandi' where the newly appointed clinic doctor has chaotic and comedic experiences with the villagers, which highlights the condition of the healthcare system in rural areas in a satirical way. The story is rooted in the issues faced by doctors and does a great job of showing the country at its grassroots levels. Hence, it has often been compared with Panchayat for the similarity of the premise. 

The show features many phenomenal actors who have made a name for themselves with their performances in other OTT shows. Amol Parashar starred as 'Dr Prabhat', the protagonist of the show. However, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, who played the role of 'Dr Gargi', has stolen the hearts of the audience with her very convincing performance as an innocent doctor from 'Bhatkandi'. But people are surprised to see her real-life look and the shocking fact that the actress is best friends with Alia Bhatt. 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor comes from a family of film directors and producers 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor was born in 1993 in Mumbai, to Shashi Ranjan and Anu Ranjan. Her father, Shashi Ranjan, used to be an actor and director. Now he co-produces shows with his wife, Anu Ranjan. The couple also founded the Indian Television Academy and produced the ITA Awards show. Akansha also has an elder sister, Anushka Ranjan, who tied the knot to actor, Aditya Seal in a glamorous Bollywood wedding attended by all the stalwarts of the industry. 

Akansha Ranjan is not related to any of the Kapoors of Bollywood but uses the surname 

The actress comes from a renowned family with connections in the Bollywood film industry, but she is not related to anyone in the Kapoor clan. The reason why she added 'Kapoor' as a surname has not yet been revealed by the starlet. But it is a known fact that both the Kapoor families, whether the one with Ranbir Kapoor or the one with Sonam Kapoor, carry a lot of weight in Bollywood with their generational legacy. Hence, many people speculate that Aransha Ranjan added the 'Kapoor' to her name to get the benefits that come with the surname. 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor is best friends with Alia Bhatt 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have been best friends since childhood. Both of them studied at the same school, Jamnabai International School, in Mumbai. This is where their friendship began and blossomed, and continued even after Alia Bhatt dropped out in 12th standard to pursue acting as a career. The two have never shied away from showcasing their friendship through social media posts. Both of them have posted photos of each other enjoying vacations or lunch dates together. Akansha and Alia can also be seen cheering and complementing each other on their posts. 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor is not an Indian citizen, much like her best friend

Alia Bhatt was born and brought up in India but holds British citizenship since her mother, Soni Razdan, is a British citizen herself. Similarly, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor shocked people when she revealed that she was not an Indian citizen like her best friend. The actress completed both her schooling and diploma in Mumbai. However, Akansha is an American citizen and revealed that she had cast her vote for the US 2024 Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris.

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor has openly stated that she is dating film-maker, Sharan Sharma 

Many Bollywood actors and actresses answer diplomatically when asked whether they are dating someone. But, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor has openly admitted to dating filmmaker, Sharan Sharma. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, have been directed by him. He has also worked under Karan Johar as an assistant in many of his popular films and shows, such as Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Koffee with Karan. On her personal life, Akansha has said that she doesn't like talking about it but she also hasn't hidden the fact that she is dating the director. The filmmaker also made a recent post, expressing his excitement to watch the movie and particularly mentioned the actress. 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor made her film debut under Dharma Productions 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor starred in the popular Netflix film Guilty, released in 2020. The film was produced by Dharmatic, which is the digital content wing of Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The actress shared the screen with Kiara Advani and Gurfateh Pirzada. Her performance as 'Tanu Kumar', an abuse victim, got Akansha a nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Female) for the Filmfare OTT Awards 2020. 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor went on to charm the audience through her various roles in popular OTT projects 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor had first started her career in 2019 with a fashion series for the television channel TLC called Decoded. Then she featured in a music video, opposite Aparshakti Khurana. After a good performance in her debut film Guilty, the actress starred in a Netflix show called Ray, opposite Harshvardhan Kapoor. Akansha was part of another Netflix film Monica, O My Darling. Since her acting debut, most of the actress' work has been with Netflix productions, so Gram Chikitsakay marked her first performance with an Amazon Prime show. 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor is all set to make her Telugu film debut with MaayaOne

After working in many OTT films and shows, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor ventured into Telugu films. The actress will be starring opposite Sundeep Kishan in the film, MaayaOne which is a sequel to the 2017 released movie, Maayavan. Actor, Neil Nitin Mukesh will also be playing a negative role in the movie. The shooting of the film has been completed, and a teaser was launched as well in 2024. But a release date has yet to be announced for the film.
