Akshay Kumar is one of the most popular and versatile actors in Bollywood. He is particularly known for making patriotic films in the recent years that have performed well at the box office. As a result, when Bollywood celebs turned out for voting, it was actor, Akshay Kumar who caught the media attention. Akshay Kumar is voting for the first time after regaining his Indian citizenship in 2023, following a lot of controversy.
Akshay Kumar was amongst the first Bollywood celebrities snapped at the polling station. The early riser actor was quick to visit the polling station at 7 am. In a video shared by ANI, the Bade Miyan Chote Miyan actor, who voted for the first time after regaining his Indian citizenship, was visibly happy and proud. He greeted the media and flaunted his inked finger. He was quoted saying:
“I want my India to be developed and strong. I voted keeping that in mind. India should vote for what they deem is right...I think voter turnout will be good.”

In the early phase of his career, Akshay Kumar gave 15 flops in a row. As he felt his acting career wasn't long, he applied for Canadian citizenship in the 1990s. When he began living in Toronto after getting citizenship, two films that were left for release became superhits. So, he packed his bags and returned to work in India, and his career flourished. Several years later, the news of Canadian citizenship became an issue of controversy among netizens. Speaking on the incident, Akshay shared:
“I never thought people got a hold of it, it was just a travel document. I just pay my taxes, and I am the highest taxpayer.”
Akshay Kumar renounced his Canadian passport and reapplied to become an Indian citizen in 2019. However, the process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic that halted the official process. He said that India meant everything to him. He earned money from India and got a chance to return it to the country by paying taxes. Akshay revealed that he felt bad when people spoke about the issue of his Canadian citizenship without knowing anything about it. When Akshay received his Indian citizenship in August 2023, he shared a picture of the documents on Twitter (now X) and captioned the post saying:
"Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind.”

Akshay Kumar was last seen in the film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan co-starring Tiger Shroff, which didn't perform well at the box office. Recently, the actor has wrapped up his next film, Jolly LLB 3 in Rajasthan. Along with it, his upcoming films include Housefull 5 and Sky Force.
