Akshay Kumar's Struggling Life As Waiter Serves Backlash, Netizens Say, 'Born Into Govt Privilege..'

Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar is an inspiration to most of the stars. He is known for releasing 3-4 movies yearly. However, 'Khiladi Kumar's' journey in Bollywood was not a cake walk as reportedly he had worked as a waiter in Bangkok and also had done many odd jobs to make ends meet. Now, on Reddit, a post has gone viral where netizens claimed that Akshay wasn't a struggling waiter who made it big through martial arts skills.

Netizens slam Akshay Kumar's struggling days as a waiter, revealing he was privileged

A netizen noted how Akshay was born into government employee privilege. His father, Hari Om Bhatia, was an Army officer turned UNICEF accountant with a stable income. The family had financial stability to support his martial arts training from childhood. The netizen questioned Akshay's journey from a waiter to a superstar, sounding inspiring. It was noted that Akshay's father had enough money to send him to Thailand for 5 years of martial arts training, a luxury that most families couldn't afford. Bangkok period wasn't a survival struggle as his training abroad was supported with family financial backing.  A part of the viral note also read:

"Worked as a waiter/ chef to supplement income during training, not for survival. Martial Arts expertise gave him a unique positioning in Bollywood action films. Returning to Mumbai with international martial arts credentials opened doors that most struggling actors never accessed. His work ethic and discipline were exemplary, but his privilege was a stable, well-earning family. Self-made stars don't start with a government employee father's funding, 5 years of international training."

Netizens react to Akshay Kumar being privileged, who worked as a waiter in Bangkok

A user seeing the post on Akshay Kumar being privileged shared, "This might be some upper middle class privilege, but everyone knows this isn't even decent enough to give you a role in Bollywood. Trust me, this is not even a significant privilege if you compare other people in Bollywood." Another Redditor commented, "He never said his dad was poor. Always maintained he was from an army background. But also not a rags-to-riches story, which his PR wants you to believe." Some users also noted that his journey of having a networth of Rs. 10-20 lakh to thousands of crores is a rags-to-riches story. Another user noted, "Yes, that's 1-2 crores max in today's money. Most people with a flat in a big city is worth that much. A farmer who owns acres of land in a village is worth that much. That's not uber rich."

When Akshay Kumar earned Rs. 1500 as a waiter in Bangkok

To survive in Bollywood in itself is a task, especially when you do not have filmy parents or godfathers, for that matter. Akshay was born into a Punjabi family and was raised in Delhi. He had a fond interest in martial arts from the start, and then did his training in the same. It led Akshay to Bangkok, where he did learn about the art of Muay Thai and got a black belt in Taekwondo. When he was in Bangkok, he worked as a waiter at Metro Guest House restaurant, which paid him Rs. 1,500. Akshay had also worked as a peon, reportedly back at a travel agency located in Kolkata, and did varied odd jobs to make ends meet.
