Acclaimed Actor, Son Of Yesteryear Popular Star, Almost Got Married To Karisma Kapoor, Single At 49

Hindi cinema has many actors, who often doesn’t get the credit for their hard work. Compared to other mainstream actor, they do not enjoy much fan following, but their body of work speaks volume of their talent. One such actor is Akshaye Khanna, who still has not got his due credit for his effortless performances.

Son of veteran actor, Vinod Khanna, Akshaye Khanna made his acting debut in 1997 with the film, Himalay Putr. In the same year, he also starred in J.P. Dutta’s Border. Despite being a multi-starrer, Akshaye’s performance won him accolades. Akshaye tasted commercial success with films like Taal and Dil Chahta Hai. He was then seen in films like Humraaz, Hungama, Race, Hulchul, Gandhi, My Father and a few others.

After a hiatus of four years, Akshaye Khanna played supporting roles in films like Dishoom, Mom, Section 375 and Drishyam 2. Akshaye is all set to mesmerise the audience with his much-anticipated film, Chhaava, in which he is portraying the role of 'Aurangzeb'. Akshaye Khanna had a major crush on Aishwarya Rai

Many people doesn’t know this, but Akshaye Khanna had a major crush on Aiswarya Rai and he was smitten by the actress. Akshaye had worked with Aishwarya in Aa Ab Laut Chalen and Taal and was mesmerised by her beauty. In a chat with Karan Johar during the promotion of his film, Ittefaq, Akshaye was asked who according to him is the sexiest girl in Bollywood. The actor promptly replied, Aishwarya Rai and said:

“I can't take my eyes off her every time I meet her. It's embarrassing for men. She must be used to it (people staring at her). But I'm not used to not being able to take my eyes off somebody. You just keep staring at her like a lunatic.”

Akshaye Khanna’s personal life has always been on the radar. As per multiple reports, Akshaye was romantically linked to actress, Tara Sharma and Riya Sen. Once, in a throwback interview, he expressed his desire to date the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, late Jayalalithaa.

Akshaye Khanna almost got married to Karisma Kapoor

Did you know, the handsome Akshaye Khanna was almost on the verge of marrying actress, Karisma Kapoor? When Karisma broke up with Ajay Devgn, she found solace in Akshaye, whom she considered a great friend. After some time, the two fell in love with each other and Randhir Kapoor too reportedly gave a green signal to their relationship.

As per reports, Randhir had even sent a marriage proposal to Akshaye’s father, Vinod. However, Karisma's mother, Babita intervened and didn't let the marriage happen. As per the reports, Babita was not happy with Karisma getting married as she was at the peak of her career. Akshaye, being a private person, never talked about his relationship or break-up with Karisma.

Akshaye Khanna, who had once won the 'Best Debut Male' for his role in Border, is still single at the age of 49. In many of his interviews, he admitted being a commitment-phobic and stated that with the passage of time, he had become warier of relationships. The actor accepted the fact that his ‘alone time’ is very precious to him and even the thought of being in a relationship scares him.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, when Akshaye was asked why he is still unmarried, the actor had given a very logical reason for the same and had said:

"I don’t see myself (getting married), I’m not marriage material, as they say. I’m not cut out for that kind of… (we ask if it’s commitment)… not that, but that kind of life. It’s a commitment, but a drastic lifestyle change. Marriage changes everything. I want full control over my life. When you share your life with somebody else, you can’t have full control. You have to give a lot of control away. You share each other’s lives."
