'Amitabh Bachchan And Rajinikanth Can't Act': Alencier Ley Lopez's Shocking Dig At The Megastars

Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated reunion in Vettaiyan has sparked major conversations in the film industry. After 33 long years, the two megastars of Bollywood and Kollywood once again shared the silver screen in the film. However, one of their co-actors sparked controversy with his statement on the stars’ acting prowess. 

Alencier Ley Lopez shares his experience seeing the two megastars at work

Veteran Malayalam actor, Alencier Ley Lopez has ignited controversy with his shocking comments on the two legends. In a recent media interaction, the Appan actor shocked cinephiles when he revealed how witnessing the superstars perform in person made him rethink their acting skills. The actor plays the role of a judge during a high-stakes courtroom showdown scene. Talking about how he landed the role in Vettaiyan and his excitement to see the two legends, Bachchan and Rajinikanth at work, Alencier shared:

“I was sent a flight ticket to Mumbai and they gave me accommodation at a five-star hotel. I just had to sit there as a judge for one shot and opposite me, on either side were Amitabh Bachchan sir and Rajinikanth sir.”

However, what took everyone by surprise was Alencier’s sudden dig at Bachchan and Rajinikanth’s action persona. The veteran actor did not hold back as he humorously recalled his childhood perception of Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life stunts. He shared:

“During my pre-degree days, I have seen Rajini sir stopping the whirring blades of a helicopter with his bare teeth. So, I wanted to see how he acts in front of the camera. During the Vettaiyan shoot, I saw him perform his stylised form of acting, his body language and walking out of the courtroom. Then, Amitabh Bachchan would roar like a lion, and I have to act shocked after all this."

After seeing the two megastars at work, Alencier realised that they are mainly associated with stylised mannerisms and commanding voices, whereas he is better suited for realistic storytelling as is common in Malayalam cinema. However, his remark takes a sharp turn when he asserts that despite their legendary status, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan ‘cannot act’, implying that their performances rely more on spectacle and persona rather than raw, authentic acting. He remarked:

“I realised I couldn’t compete with them because I didn’t know enough stylised acting nor do I have a deep baritone. All I can do is perform in films made by the likes of Dileesh Pothan, Sharan Venugopal and Rajeev Ravi. Also, I realised that they cannot act."

He was seen playing the role of a courtroom judge in the Bachahan and Rajinikanth starrer, Vettaiyan.
