The festival of lights, Diwali is one of the most sacred festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs across the nation. While the festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, Diwali is also widely associated with Goddess Lakshmi. Diwali is also celebrated to mark the day when Lord Rama returned to his kingdom, Ayodhya, with his wife, Sita and brother, Lakshmana, after serving 14 years of exile and defeating the evil lord, Ravana. The festival is celebrated by cleaning houses and workplaces and decorating them with diyas, rangoli, and other decorative items.
Buying new clothes, vehicles, and things on Diwali is also considered extremely sacred. However, burning firecrackers is the only vital part of this festival that lands in controversies almost every year. While some people support the age-old tradition of burning firecrackers on the festival of lights, many oppose it as a direct threat to the environment and the voiceless animals, who suffer due to the crackers. However, the discussion on this topic has been quite intense in recent years, and with the entry of Bollywood celebrities into it, the internet looks nothing less than a battlefield.
