The spectacular annual fashion event, Met Gala 2024, hosted by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, took place on May 6, 2024. The looks of all the celebrities who attended this fashion extravaganza are out now, and the internet cannot help but heap praise on Alia Bhatt's floral saree moment on the red carpet. This is the second consecutive year that the Bollywood actress graced the Met Gala.
Alia looked gorgeous in a custom-made mint green floral Sabyasachi saree featuring a 23-foot-long train. According to an Instagram post shared by the designer, Sabyasachi, her couture saree was hand-embroidered with silk floss, beads, sequins, and semi-precious stones and fringed with glass beads. Moreover, Alia’s hand-crafted blouse was adorned with emeralds, Basra pearls, tourmalines, and multi-coloured sapphires. The actress opted for a statement matha patti and emerald and sapphire-studded earrings.

Meanwhile, eagle-eyed netizens noticed that Alia’s saree looked very similar to Deepika Padukone’s saree, which she wore to the Marathi Filmfare Awards in 2017. Even Katrina Kaif’s pre-wedding saree, which she wore to pay homage to her mother’s British roots had similarities to Alia's and Deepika's saree. A Reddit user pointed out that Sabyasachi’s sarees looked quite similar, and other Redditors joined in the discussion as well. A segment of people on the internet said that Sabyasachi’s saree is not appropriate for the Met Gala.

Deepika Padukone wore a similar floral sheer tulle saree featuring floral embroideries and a long train. The saree was also adorned with shimmery embellishments and floral motifs along the border. Deepika paired her saree with a sleeveless blouse and opted for soft smokey eyes, blushed cheeks and nude lips to accentuate her look. She also chose heavy earrings to complete her overall look.
On the other hand, Katrina’s couture Sabyasachi saree with a trailing veil was conceptualised as a special look to pay an ode to her British roots. Her pastel-shade sheer tulle saree was embellished with hand-cut English flowers and sprinkled with semi-precious gems and crystals. Katrina paired her saree with an uncut diamond choker detailed with opals and pale Russian emeralds and matching earrings.
