Alia Bhatt Talks About Making Maternity Wear Bump-Friendly, Asks, 'Should I Raid Ranbir's Wardrobe?'

Maternity fashion has become a trending thing now, and every now and then, we have seen the mommies-to-be flaunting some unique outfits. However, when it comes to celebrities, the actresses and star wives leave no stone unturned to shell out major maternity fashion goals. From Kareena Kapoor Khan to Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu, the actresses flaunted their baby bump in style throughout their pregnancy.

Bollywood actress, Alia Bhatt is currently expecting her first child with her actor-husband, Ranbir Kapoor. The mommy-to-be always managed to win our hearts with her maternity wear, and her style was undoubtedly top-notch. Be it flaunting her baby bump in flowy anarkalis or hiding it by donning flowy shararas, Alia left no stone unturned to make a style statement throughout her pregnancy.

On September 30, 2022, Alia Bhatt took to her IG handle and shared a post to announce the launch of her new maternity-wear line. In her note, the mommy-to-be mentioned that when she launched a children’s clothing brand, she was often asked why she did it as she doesn’t have any kids. However, she added that now that she is launching her maternity wear collection, nobody is going to question her decision. She wrote:

“Two years ago, I started a children's clothing brand. Everyone asked why I'm doing a kids brand when I don't have kids. Now, I'm launching my own line of maternity-wear. I don't think anyone will ask why. But let me tell you anyway,”

Alia also shared that she got overwhelmed when she started shopping for maternity wear after she got pregnant. Mentioning how the expecting ladies don’t know how they are going to look during their pregnancy, the actress added that it further elevates their stress when they don't find the right thing to wear. Asking if she should raid her husband, Ranbir's wardrobe, the mommy-to-be added:

“It's not like I've bought maternity clothes before. But when I got down to it, I was overwhelmed. You don't know how you're going to look or feel over the next few months and let's be honest, not being able to find the right thing to wear can be stressful. Do I buy brands I already wear but in a bigger size? Should I raid Ranbir's wardrobe? And just because my body is changing doesn't mean my sense of style has to, right?”

Further in her note, Alia added how she made her personal style more bump-friendly by altering her favourite jeans and designing shirts without the fear of sharing it with her hubby, Ranbir Kapoor. She also mentioned how she started to opt for flowy dresses and prioritising comfort over anything else, and all this led to the development of her entire maternity collection. She concluded:

“So I started making my personal style more bump-friendly. I added elastic to my favourite jeans, designed shirts that I didn't have to share with my husband, and wore flowy dresses so as to not invite any unwanted belly-touching. Comfort took priority over any 'airport looks.' What started off as me trying to fill a gap in my existing wardrobe, led to an entire maternity collection. And I can't wait to give you a sneak-peek tomorrow!”

Congratulations, Alia Bhatt for the launch of your maternity apparel line!
