Alia Bhatt is one of the most favourite actresses of her generation. She has a huge fan following, and proof of the same is often found in her films' success. Over the years, she has worked in a number of Bollywood movies, and recently, she was also seen in the Hollywood film, Heart of Stone, starring Gal Gadot. Thus, the Bollywood beauty has been able to spread her aura even overseas. She will be next seen in her home-production film, Jigra, co-starring Vedang Raina. Moreover, she has Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love and War in her pipeline.
Now, in an interview with the Economic Times, Alia Bhatt opened up about how she established herself in the film industry apart from being a fashion icon or an entrepreneur. She was asked about the key factors that helped her transition from being a Bollywood actor to an international personality. She mentioned that getting involved with the language of the film, and its characters helped her the most. Alia said:
“It's tough to pinpoint what factors worked. But I've always believed that when you're talking about international appeal, you're talking about something that transcends language and boundaries. The answer to that for me is emotion, which transcends wide and far. When I'm consuming Korean, Malayalam, or German content, I'm not focusing on the language. I'm connecting with the basic story and emotion it conveys."

Alia also talked about the key decisions she made that contributed the most to giving her an international appeal. However, calling herself 'fortunate', the actress revealed that she got many opportunities on her own. Moreover, she revealed her interest in always wanting to play different characters onscreen and challenge herself. She shared how the director of Udta Punjab, Abhishek Choubey found it weird when she accepted her role in the film. However, she was of the opinion that audiences find it instantly correct when they are offered a ‘buffet of emotions’. She shared:
"I have been very fortunate early in my career to get roles that offer a vast variety of emotional depth to play with. When I'm playing a character, I get very involved in it. My intention is always to go for different characters, and hopefully, that has come across to the audience. I wouldn't want to be pigeonholed into a specific type of film. I challenge myself to see if I can do different kinds of films.”
Earlier, in an interview with Deadline, Deepika Padukone opened up about the Indian cinema getting attention on a global level. She shared that the West has opened up more to the Indian cinema and cited the example of how the viral song, Naatu Naatu, from Alia Bhatt starrer, RRR, went on to win the Oscar. In Deepika's words:
“I think the world has become smaller, and the world has come together and it’s really about telling great stories. Whether it’s working in Sweden or Bosnia, it’s about telling interesting stories that resonate for an audience across the world.”
