Alia Bhatt Reacts To People Trolling Her For Her Low IQ, Says 'I Love It When People Call Me Dumb'

Bollywood actress, Alia Bhatt is riding high on the personal as well as professional front. Currently, she is busy promoting her upcoming movie, Darlings, not only as an actor but also as a producer. For the unversed, Alia Bhatt has donned the hat of a producer with her upcoming film, Darlings, which also stars her in the lead role alongside Shefali Shah, Vijay Verma, and Roshan Mathew. Moreover, the film is co-produced by Gauri Khan.

Alia Bhatt is often trolled for her low IQ and people consider her a dumb person. It had so happened that during Alia's appearance on Koffee With Karan in 2013, when she was asked to name the President of India, she had answered incorrectly and replied Prithviraj Chauhan instead of Dr. Pranab Mukhejee. Though it has been approximately a decade since that mistake, the ghosts of the past followed her for a long time and haunted her.

Ever since the goof-up, Alia Bhatt has been frequently asked questions related to general knowledge during her media interactions. Recently, when Alia attended an event hosted by The Indian Express, she was reminded of those days. However, before anyone could ask her that question, Alia was swift to name the current President, and said, ‘Droupadi Murmu Ji.’

When Alia was asked about her evolution from being called dumb back in those days to now being complimented for being wiser beyond her age, the actress gave a prompt reply. Alia shared that she loves it when people think she is ‘dumb’ as she believes it increases her popularity. She added that in her opinion bookish knowledge is not intelligence and said:

“I love it when people think that I am unintelligent, or that ‘oh she is so dumb.’ I genuinely do, because they make so many memes on me which add to the popularity, and then it’s like you are loving my movies. So there is possibly something that I am doing right in the movie business...I also want to put out this message for young girls-- general knowledge and bookish intelligence in my opinion is not intelligence. To survive in a world, you have to have a certain emotional intelligence, which is possibly the highest form of intelligence.”

Further in the interaction, Alia admitted that she doesn't remember what she read in the books in her school, but remembers her interactions with the teachers and students. She also insisted that she knew the correct answer back then and revealed that the oath-taking ceremony had not happened by that time. Talking about the same, Alia said:

“My father says ‘rather be stupid than pretend to be intelligent.’ I had this interview on 23rd July when somebody asked me who is the President of India and I was like right now the ceremony hasn’t happened yet, so I am not sure what to say. So I would rather not say anything... In my defence, for the millionth time, I knew who the President of India was (in 2013). It was just confusing. You put anybody in the spot and ask them to give an answer, all wrong answers come out.”

Alia Bhatt’s much-awaited film, Darlings will release on Netflix on August 5, 2022.
