Alice in Borderland is all set to return with its third instalment. The horror, action, thriller series will pick up from where the last season left off. In the finale of season 2, most of the characters declined permanent residency in the Borderland and returned to Tokyo, Japan. They woke up in a hospital as survivors of a deadly meteor strike with hints of blossoming love between 'Ryohei' And 'Usagi' in the real world. Season 3 will pick up from there, and director Shinsuke Sato shared some interesting developments about their characters.
Alice in Borderland season 3 will be released on September 25, 2025, and it will be available to watch exclusively on Netflix. Viewers worldwide, including those in India and the United States, will be able to binge-watch the entire series with a subscription to the OTT platform. The new season will consist of six episodes, just like its last two instalments. Viewers can expect higher stakes, deepening bonds, nerve-wrecking 'games' and emotional plot twists in season 3.
At the end of season 2, 'Ryohei Arisu' or 'Alice' (played by Yamakazi Kento) and 'Usagi Yuzuha' or 'Rabbit' (played by Tsuchiya Tao) met each other in the hospital. They had no memory of Imawa no Kuni (Borderland) or the survival games, just like the other characters. Even though 'Ryohei' and 'Usagi' didn't know each other in the real world, they felt an instant connection after locking eyes. 'Ryohei' decided to hit on 'Usagi' and she responded positively. Season 3 will be centred around the emotional quotient of the duo and their future together.
Recently, director, Shinsuke Sato shared in an exclusive chat with Cinema Daily US that 'Ryohei' and 'Usagi' will feature as a married couple in Alice in Borderland season 3. He mentioned that the wedding detail will be kept subtle and a hint will be provided during one of the survival games that the characters will play in the latest instalment. 'Ryohei' and 'Usagi' will have a lot to lose in this season, including "their relationship, the happy married life they dreamed of, and more", as they head back to Borderland. Shinsuke Sato was quoted as saying:
"There is actually a single episode serving as a sequel where Alice plays a small game. Within that episode, it was revealed that Alice and the Rabbit were married. Our Season 3 builds upon that setting. So, while Seasons 1 and 2 focused on the gradual growth of their relationship from their first meeting, this season takes place right after they got married and started living together."
Alice in Borderland appears to be a trial of survival in a dystopian world; however, it's way more than that. The moral dilemma of whether to live or die, or to sacrifice oneself for others, forms the heart of the series. "The act of surviving becomes a source of guilt" among the characters, as mentioned by Shinsuke Sato. He considered it the selling point of the Japanese drama, as it 'resonated deeply' with the audience. The director's exact words were:

"The protagonists struggle and move forward within that narrative as they are constantly exposed to these truly ultimate questions about the essence of life. This resonated deeply with a theme that is universally shared by people all over the world, in my opinion. I believe that this death game story from Japan truly touched on something universal in terms of its theme."
