According to several reports, Aloo Mistry shared a respectful bond with the late billionaire business tycoon, Ratan Tata. However, it was her brother, Cyrus Mistry, who had an infamous feud with Ratan Tata, who saw the former being removed as the chairman of Tata Sons. For the uninitiated, back in 2016, Ratan Tata removed Cyrus Mistry from the position of chairman at Tata Sons. According to a report in PTI, Cyrus Mistry was employed in an apprenticeship under Ratan Tata, and the latter had to doubt his suitability as the chairman of Tata Sons.
According to Thomas Mathew's book, Ratan Tata: A Life, Ratan Tata wanted Cyrus Mistry to end all relations with his family company and undergo parallel running for a year with Tata Group to understand the conglomerate's philosophy. However, as time passed, Ratan Tata wondered if Cyrus Mistry's philosophy about business could possibly conflict with that of the Tatas. After Cyrus was removed abruptly from the board in October 2016, he challenged the decision in court.
From NCLT rejecting Cyrus Mistry's petition against Tata Group to being accused of allegedly leaking information about the company to the income tax department in 2018, the Appellate Tribunal of NCLT restored him as the group's executive chairman. However, Tata Group filed a petition in the Supreme Court, and a three-judge bench dismissed the chances of Cyrus Mistry being oppressed and mismanaged at Tata Sons. The legal case soured Ratan Tata and Cyrus Mistry's relationship, and despite being so close to each other as family members, they couldn't mend the ways.
Despite everything that happened between Cyrus Mistry and Ratan Tata, it's incredible how the other family members of the Tata and Mistry families continued sharing a healthy relationship. For the uninitiated, Cyrus Mistry passed away on September 4, 2022, in a car crash, while Ratan Tata died on October 9, 2024, due to age-related health problems.
