Imtiaz Ali's film, Amar Singh Chamkila has been grabbing all the headlines off lately. Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra did proper justice to the characters of 'Chamkila' and 'Amarjot', and people have been going gaga over the same. Since the time Amar Singh Chamkila was released, people have been quite interested to know about the late singer and every minute detail about his assassination that took place in 1988, but the reason behind the same is still under covers. Now and then, Chamkila's friends and family members have spoken about the brutal assassination of the singer and his wife, and now the same happened as his driver opened up about it.
Recently, Amar Singh Chamkila's driver, Ranjeet Singh talked about the day when the singer and his wife, Amarjot were killed at their akhada. While speaking to Baltej Sran, Ranjeet stated that on the day when the singer was killed, everyone took their meal together, and his secretary, Manku came over. Ranjeet mentioned how Manku left for the akhada to talk to the crowd, and after four or five minutes, they all left for the show. Sharing more about it, Ranjeet mentioned that as soon as the singer and his wife got out of the car, the firing began. Ranjeet can be quoted as saying:
"We had a meal together at a nearby house, while Manku walked over to the venue to interact with the crowd. After a few minutes, we heard him tell the audience that Chamkila would be arriving in four-five minutes, which is when we all got into the car and drove over. But as soon as we’d arrived, the firing started."

In the same interview, Ranjeet Singh shared that the three masked men who killed Amarjot and Chamkila made sure of the fact that the driver could not drive away and asked for the keys to the car. On being asked if he was threatened by the shooters, Ranjeet mentioned that the shooters only asked for the keys, which he handed over. Recalling the chaos created by the assassination, Ranjeet shared:
"They didn’t threaten me, but they asked for the keys to the car, which I handed over. They were three men. It was chaos after they started firing. People left their shoes behind as they ran for cover.”
Sharing more details about the brutal assassination of Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot, Ranjeet shared that after the horrible incident, police arrived at the place and helped him to drive his car. Ranjeet recalled that he was kept in the police station till 2 pm the next day, and he had also helped police to identify the bodies of the singer and his wife. Chamkila's driver shared that he was also present during the post mortem.

Talking about the kind of man Chamkila was, Ranjeet added that the singer never lost his cool on anyone and that he often used to insist his team members had their meal together. He also said that Chamkila used to avoid the crowd, and when the shows used to get over, he would just jump into the car and leave the place. In the concluding segment of the interview, Chamkila's driver shared that it took him 15 days to get back to his normal life after witnessing such a brutal assassination, and he was not able to sleep.
