Popular television actress, Hina Khan, popular for her portrayal of ‘Akshara’ in the serial, Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, had to take a break from showbiz after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. However, the diva did not let cancer get the higher ground and has continued to inspire her fans with her headstrong approach to life, taking them along on her journey.
In her upcoming show, Grihalaxmi, Hina will share the screen with industry stalwarts like Chunky Pandey, Rahul Dev, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. Much like Hina's personal battle with cancer, the show's central narrative revolves around themes of existence, survival, and transformation. This will be her first appearance on a television show after getting diagnosed with breast cancer. Before this, she was seen making a guest appearance in Bigg Boss 18 during a weekend episode.
On June 28, 2024, Hina Khan took to her Instagram handle to officially open up about her diagnosis, revealing that she was battling stage three breast cancer. She penned a message to her followers, assuring them she was doing well and had already started her treatments. Hina’s message read:
“Despite this challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined, and fully committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun, and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger… with the grace of the Almighty, we believe I will overcome this challenge and be completely healthy.”
Since her revelation, Hina’s perspective towards life, transparency and strength has touched the hearts of millions. This is not easy, considering the mental and physical challenges that illness and chemotherapy can cause. However, fans have praised her for her vulnerability and her ability to smile in difficult times. On July 15, 2024, Hina Khan announced her return to work post-diagnosis with an inspiring message that read:
“Walking the talk is challenging, especially when facing life’s biggest challenges. So, give yourself a break on bad days; it’s okay… you deserve it. However, don’t forget to live your life on the good days, no matter how few they are. These days still hold importance. Accept the change, embrace the difference, and NORMALISE it.”

On December 5, 2024, Hina Khan shared an emotional post on her IG, sharing the raw side of cancer treatment. In the attached photos, Hina was seen wearing patient scrubs and a beanie as she walked down a hospital corridor. She carried post-surgical drainage equipment, including a drainage bag and collection bulbs used for excess fluid. Her caption read:
