“I find it a little awkward to call it inter-caste. My father was from Uttar Pradesh, and my mother was from a Sikh family. I believe I am half-Sardar. When I was born, my masis from Punjab would say, ‘Kinna sona putar hai, ki naam rakhiya. Haaye sadda Amitabh Singh’”
This is not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan has opened up about his parents’ inter-caste wedding. During the 15th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Mr Bachchan shared details of his parents’ inter-cast wedding and that his father received a lot of backlash for marrying a Sikh woman. In the same interaction, the veteran actor stated that it was poet Sarojini Naidu who consoled his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most sought-after actors of Hindi cinema. But do you know, it was his mother, Teji Bachchan, who had introduced him into the world of theatre and cinema? Mr Bachchan shared a very warm rapport with his mother and had often mentioned in his blogs that she was the one who had shaped him as a person.
For the unversed, legendary poet, Harivansh Rai Bachchan got married to Teji back in 1941. It was an inter-caste marriage, and Teji was just 26 when she tied the knot with Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Before marriage, Teji was a social activist, but after her marriage with the iconic poet, she dedicated her life to their kids as she turned a homemaker. The couple welcomed two children, Amitabh Bachchan on October 11, 1942 and Ajitabh Bachchan on May 18, 1947.
On the work, Amitabh Bachchan is basking in the success of his last released film, Kalki 29898 AD, which also starred Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani in titular roles. After the success of Kalki, Mr. Bachchan is all set to star alongside Rajinikanth in Vettaiyan.
