Amrita Singh Revealed Divorce From Saif Ali Khan Was Not The Worst, 'I Come From A Broken Family...'

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh were the most loved couple in Bollywood, and they met on the sets of Rahul Rawail’s film, Bekhudi. He was smitten by Amrita’s beauty, and the lovely couple got married after a brief courtship period. The couple tied the knot in 1991 and embraced parenthood with the arrival of their kids, Sara Ali Khan (1995) and Ibrahim Ali Khan (2001). 

However, after 13 years of marital bliss, the two ended up in a mutual divorce. There were many stories pertaining to their divorce, even claiming compatibility as a major reason. After their divorce, Saif found love again and got married to actress, Kareena Kapoor, and the duo is doting parents to two kids, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan. On the other hand, Amrita single-handedly raised Sara and Ibrahim.

Amrita Singh revealed divorce from Saif Ali Khan was not the worst crisis in her life

In a throwback interview with Pooja Bedi, Amrita talked about her divorce from Saif Ali Khan. When Pooja asked her whether it was the worst crisis of her life, the actress responded and said no. She went on to elaborate that the worst crisis of her life was losing her mother, and her divorce came much low in terms of crisis. In her words:

“The worst crisis of my life was losing my mother because that’s the only identity and that’s the only pillar that I have really had in my life. I had no other family other than my mother. I come from a broken home and I have no siblings and I only lived with my mother. And then when Ibrahim was born, he got very unwell and that was the second nasty blow in my life. So my divorce comes much low down in the priority list of shocks.”

Saif Ali Khan paid a huge alimony to Amrita Singh

Though Saif Ali Khan parted ways with Amrita, their divorce was not amicable. The actor was reportedly not allowed to meet his children Sara and Ibrahim. The divorce from Amrita disturbed Saif, and he also paid huge alimony to his ex-wife, Amrita Singh. The actor himself spoke about the issues that he faced after his divorce.

In a 2005 interview with the Telegraph, Saif had revealed the alimony he had paid to his ex-wife, Amrita Singh and said:

“I'm supposed to give Amrita Rs 5 crore, of which I've already given her approximately Rs 2.5 crore. Also, I'm paying Rs 1 lakh per month until my son becomes 18. I'm not Shah Rukh Khan. I don't have that kind of money. I've promised her I'll pay up the rest of the money, and I will, even if I've to slog till I drop dead."

In the same interview, Saif also spoke about being penniless after his divorce from Amrita, as he had given everything to her and their children. Despite going through financial constraints, Saif said that Amrita will always remain an integral part of his life. For the unversed, Amrita was twelve years older than Saif. Despite it all, Saif had married Amrita in a secret wedding. After this, they had their share of ups and downs and remained with each other for almost ten years until their divorce. They parted ways on a sour note. A lot was written about their relationship.
