And Just Like That has come to its bittersweet end after three seasons. The Sex and the City reboot came to an abrupt end on August 14, 2025 (ET). The show had slowly but steadily won the love of millions of viewers despite the initial backlash and ongoing criticism. However, as the show had started to get good, HBO and showrunner, Michael Patrick King decided to call it quits. The sudden announcement left the viewers wondering why the makers made such a premature move. Well, as the show meets its end, let us take a look at whether the fans got the much-deserved farewell or not.
And Just Like That was released in 2021 and was met with harsh criticism. The absence of Samantha led to several conversations about inclusivity, which was furthered by the awkward character arcs. From 'Carrie's' podcasting phase to 'Mirana's' midlife queer awakening, it all felt somehow forced. Yet, despite the cringeworthy dialogue and bizarre plot choices, the series evolved into a kind of absurd, comforting escapism, becoming the guilty pleasure of countless viewers.
'Charlotte's' absurd condom run in a snowstorm, 'Miranda's' attempt to seduce a nun and the double-death of 'Lisa's' father, it all became the charm of And Just Like That. 'Seema' also emerged as a solid character in the series, filling the void left behind by 'Samantha'. However, amid ups and downs, the show has now finally reached its end, and it was an emotional experience for the haters as well.
The series finale was set in a much too conventional setting, Thanksgiving. For the viewers, it felt like an anticlimactic ending to an iconic franchise. They felt as if they were ripped off of the cathartic farewell they had been waiting for as 'Miranda' panicked over becoming a grandma and then bailed to care for her British girlfriend's dog. 'Carrie' on the other hand, left to host a chaotic Gen Z caricature dinner, which ends in overflowing toilets. All in all, it seemed like a bizarre, almost unnatural way of concluding a show which had gone through a rollercoaster ride.
On the other end, 'Carrie' had her full circle moment, or at least attempted to at the bridal show with her girlfriends. As she pondered over her relationship, finally stating: "I have to quit thinking, 'maybe a man', and start accepting: 'maybe just me.'" The finale saw her don heels for one last solo strut, paying homage to the original Sex and the City finale. However, this time, her story closed not with a romantic twist, but with a self-assured, if unconvincing, literary send-off:

Ultimately, while And Just Like That didn't end with the bang the viewers had hoped for, but was a surreal, heavy-handed whimper. The glitz and wits it had carried on over the years seemed lost in the finale. Nonetheless, it found its home in the chaos, unpredictability and messiness.
