American actress, Angelina Jolie is undeniably one of the most prominent names in the world of glitz and glamour. Apart from being a phenomenal actress, the 48-year-old is known for her humanitarian work, directorial endeavours and business ventures. Moreover, Angelina’s immense popularity made people curious about her personal life. The actress got married thrice, with the last being to the critically acclaimed Hollywood actor, Brad Pitt.
The duo dated for over a decade before tying the knot in 2014, only to get divorced in 2016. The former couple is also involved in a contentious legal dispute regarding their children's custody and jointly-owned winery. For those who don’t know, Angelina has six children, three adopted, Maddox Chivan, Zahara Marley, and Pax Thien, and three biological children, Shiloh Nouvel and twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

Recently, reports surfaced in the media stating that Angelina, in a new court filing has alleged that Brad used to physically abuse her even before the 2016 plane incident that led her to file for divorce. According to a report by CNN, the actress filed a motion with the Los Angeles Superior Court on April 4, 2024.
In it, she claimed that when she tried to sell her stake in the Miraval Winery to Pitt, he, in turn, proposed an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) to her. The agreement would prevent Angelina from talking about any of his misconduct other than in court. Angelina’s lawyers have claimed:
“While Pitt's history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well. Jolie then immediately left him.”
On the other hand, a friend of Brad Pitt, who is familiar with the litigation, said that when a decision goes against the other party, i.e., Angelina Jolie, they start to produce irrelevant or misleading information to distract. While sharing more thoughts about the case with the media outlet, People, Brad’s friend said:
“This is a pattern of behaviour, whenever there is a decision that goes against the other side they consistently choose to introduce misleading, inaccurate and/or irrelevant information as a distraction. There was a lengthy custody trial that involved the entire history of their relationship and a judge who heard all the evidence still granted him 50/50 custody.”

This recent court filing by Angelina is related to Brad’s lawsuit from 2022, in which he stated that the two had agreed to obtain consent before selling their stake in their winery. Moreover, in June 2023, the actor claimed that Angelina sold her stake as an act of revenge after the court’s ruling on their children’s custody.
He also had claimed earlier that Angelina had refused to sign his NDA, and instead proposed an even broader one that would have prohibited both parties from making any derogatory remarks about each other in public, except in court proceedings. While Brad’s representative has not commented on this yet, Angelina’s attorney, Paul Murphy said to CNN:
“Mr. Pitt refused to purchase Ms. Jolie’s interest when she would not be silenced by his NDA. By refusing to buy her interest but then suing her, Mr. Pitt put directly at issue why that NDA was so important to him and what he hoped it would bury: his abuse of Ms. Jolie and their family. After eight months of delays, this motion asks the Court to force Mr. Pitt to finally produce that evidence.”
Angelina and Brad bought the French winery in 2008. After they were legally declared single in 2019, Angelina sold her stake in the winery in 2021.
