In 2011, reports were rife that some trouble was going on in Anil Kapoor and his wife, Sunita Kapoor's marriage after the actor had made a controversial statement during his visit on Karan Johar's celebrity talk show, Koffee With Karan. It was Koffee With Karan's third season, in which Anil was joined by his fellow industry mates, Sanjay Dutt and Kangana Ranaut. During the show's rapid-fire round, when Karan had asked Anil to name a woman for whom he would leave his wife, Sunita Kapoor, the actor had given an interesting reply to his question. Answering this in his trademark witty way, Anil had pointed his finger towards Kangana and had taken her name.
Anil Kapoor's answer had left the show's host, Karan Johar, in total shock, and he had told Kangana Ranaut that she should start worrying about herself after Anil had revealed his intentions. Hearing Karan's advice, the actress had blushed and had started smiling. Although Anil's answer was an absolute joke, some people had taken it quite seriously and had started speculating about trouble in his marriage with his wife, Sunita Kapoor. On May 19, 2021, Anil Kapoor and his wife, Sunita Kapoor had marked their 37th wedding anniversary. On their special day, the doting husband had posted a series of pictures with his 'bedrock', Sunita and had also penned a heartfelt wish for her in the caption. Making a promise to Sunita, Anil had written in his anniversary wish to her:
"All the love stories and quotes about love fall short in front of our love story. With you by my side I know I'm safe, loved and happy! You are the bedrock of our combined families and we don't know what we'd do without you in our lives!
