Believe it or not, the old-school romance was way better and cuter than the modern dating. The digital era has suffocated the essence of old-school romance and the personal touch is seemed to be lost somewhere as we moved on. However, there are couples who reinstate our faith in old-school love and romance with their awe-inspiring and everlasting love stories. As the days and years went by, one evergreen B-town couple whose love stood against all odds and grew stronger with each passing day is Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor. During the promotions of his film, Fanney Khan, Anil featured on Humans of Bombay's Instagram page and bared his heart out about how he fell in love with Sunita.

Reminiscing how his love story started with a prank call, Anil penned down, “A friend of mine gave Sunita my number to prank call me––that’s when I first spoke to her and fell in love with her voice! Soon after, we met at a party, there was just something about her. We started talking and became friends. We used to discuss this other girl I liked - you know, if I like her or she likes me? Then suddenly that girl vanished, leaving me heartbroken – our friendship strengthened because of that! Little did I know that Sunita was the one all along – we started dating organically. It’s not like in the movies––I didn’t ask her to be my girlfriend––we both just knew.”
Anil further mentioned about his struggling days and how Sunita stood by him through thick and thin, “She was from a liberal family - a banker’s daughter with a modelling career and I was bekaar! She didn’t care who I was or what my profession is - none of it mattered! I lived in Chembur and she lived on Nepeansea road – it took me an hour to reach by bus. She would start screaming, ‘No come fast by cab!’ and I’d say ‘Arrey I don’t have money’ then she’d say ‘Just come na’ and pay for my cab! We dated for 10 years––we travelled and grew together. She was always clear that she won’t enter the kitchen. If I said ‘cook’ I’d get a kick! I knew I needed to become something before asking her to marry me. I went through the struggle of not getting work, but she supported me unconditionally.”
Anil Kapoor culminated his first big break in Bollywood and his sudden marriage to his lady-love, Sunita. “So when I got my first break, ‘Meri Jung’ I thought, now house will come, kitchen will come, help will come...I can get married! So I called Sunita and said, ‘Let’s get married tomorrow – it’s tomorrow or never’ and the next day, we were married! I went for shoot 3 days later and madam went abroad on our honeymoon...without me!” (Also Read: Daughter Rhea Trolls Father Anil Kapoor While He Texts His Wife Sunita, Anand Ahuja Enjoys The Show)

Speaking about 45 years of their friendship and love, Anil went on to say, “Honestly, she knows me better than I know me. We’ve built our life; our home together. We’ve raised 3 kids and been through ups and downs. But I feel like we’re finally dating now – romantic walks and dinners have just begun! We’ve been together 45 years––45 years of friendship, love and companionship. They don’t make people like her anymore. She’s the perfect mother, perfect wife and the reason I wake up every morning, motivated. You know why? When I ask her, ‘Arrey, yesterday only gave you so much money’ she says, ‘Woh sab khatam ho gaya...it’s all finished!’ and I jump out of bed and run to work!” Check out the post that was shared by Humans Of Bombay on their Facebook page:
In a throwback interview with a media portal, Anil Kapoor shared his views on marriage, and said, “I have been blessed to spend my life with my friend who became my girlfriend and then my wife. So, we are far from a dysfunctional marriage like my character in Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD). We have been together for 42 years or so. We must be doing something right. In a marriage, sense of humour is very important. Being able to laugh at each other and ourselves and being positive helps. We also work with each other’s strengths. There are things you can learn from your wife – from a woman’s perspective, which helps you look at the world differently. According to my friends – Javed Akhtar and Anupam Kher, I am what I am because of my wife. They joke sometimes, that ‘Sunita nahi hoti toh Anil raste pe hota.’”
Married to Sunita Kapoor for 34 years now, Anil Kapoor proudly calls himself a family man. He was quoted as saying, “I am blessed that I got to spend my life with my friend, who first became my girlfriend, and then my wife. The film industry is a tough place to be in. You are constantly in the media glare. Plus, there are so many temptations out there all the time. But the secret to my happy marriage is Sunita. She is the one who has made it work, and tolerated all my eccentricities.” (Also Read: Anil Kapoor's Workout And Diet Regime: Secrets As To Why He Refuses To Age)
Talking about the most important aspect of making a marriage work, Anil stated, “In a marriage, a sense of humour is very important, and so is being positive. Marriages are about compromises. At times, I compromise, and sometimes, she does. She has compromised a lot, and in the long run, I have understood that it has been only to benefit me.”
Like a typical Bollywood movie, Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor’s old-school romantic love tale is all about conquering the world with each other’s support and love!
