Ankita Lokhande And Randeep Hooda's 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' Creates History As It Enters Oscars

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is among the few biographical dramas in the history of Indian cinema that did complete justice to the sensitive life story of the revolutionary leader. The film features Randeep Hooda and Ankita Lokhande in lead roles and is also the former's directorial debut. The film gained immense critical acclamation and has now added yet another feather to its cap, having just been submitted to the Oscars 2024.

Ankita Lokhande and Randeep Hooda's masterpiece, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, made history as it became this year's first historic film to be submitted for the Oscars 2025. The Oscars are the most prestigious film award, celebrating cinema's creative aspects and related creations. Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies was the first film of 2024 to be submitted to the Oscars, and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is next on the list. Talking about the nomination, Randeep Hooda added:

"It's an honour to represent a film that resonates so deeply with Indian history. Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is a film that aims to bring forgotten stories to the forefront, and this recognition pushes our narrative even further."

The makers of the film shared the good news and expressed how proud they are. Anand Pandit added that the achievement is not just for the team but for everyone who believed in telling the story of the unsung hero. Anand further added:

 "This is a moment of great pride, not just for our team, but for everyone who believes in telling stories of our unsung heroes. Being chosen as one of India's entries for the Oscars is a huge validation of our efforts." 

Ankita Lokhande didn't charge any fee for her role in Swatantra Veer Savarkar

In an interview, the film's producer, Sandeep Singh mentioned that when he got the film, Swatantra Veer Savarkar, no one wanted to work with him, and he had to go through many media trials. The producer further stated that he wanted Ankita to play the role of 'Yamunabai' in the movie. Sandeep shared that Ankita had given him one condition that she would not take a single penny for any role in any of his films. Sandeep can be quoted as saying:

"At the time I got Savarkar, nobody wanted to work with me because I had gone through a lot of media trial. I never told her that nobody wants to work with me. I wanted her to play Yamunabai in Savarkar. She said ‘I have one condition that I am not going to charge for this film. I can never charge any money from you for any role’. I said then you are in all my films.”

When Ankita Lokhande revealed that Randeep Hooda told her that she wasn't a fit for Swatantra Veer Savarkar 

During a promotional press conference of the movie, Swatantra Veer Savarkar, Ankita Lokhande shared that Randeep Hooda told her that she wasn't fit to play the role of 'Yamunabai Savarkar' in the movie. Sharing the reason, Ankita stated that the actor told her that she was too pretty for the role.
