Anupam Kher's Film, 'Tanvi The Great' To Screen At New York Film Festival, Said, 'A Dream That....'

Famous Indian actor and director, Anupam Kher is all set to showcase his latest film, Tanvi The Great, at the New York Indian Film Festival. The screening will take place on June 19, 2025. The film had already been shown at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and was praised by the audience there. After New York, the film will also be screened in Austin on June 21 and Houston on June 22. In India, Tanvi The Great will release in theatres on July 18, 2025.

The struggles that went behind making Tanvi The Great

Despite getting global recognition, what people don't know is that the making of the film was not easy at all. Anupam Kher shared in several interviews that many people who had promised to support the film financially, backed out at the last minute, which led to budget problems and caused delays. At one point, Anupam Kher considered putting a hold on the project. But he believed in the story so strongly that he invested his own time, money, and energy to finish the film. He said that Tanvi The Great is not just another movie, it’s a story he felt needed to be told. He called the film a dream that refused to die. 

Tanvi The Great was first shown at the Cannes Film Market in May 2025, where it received a warm and emotional response. Viewers laughed, cried, and said the story touched their hearts. After getting so much love at Cannes, the film will next be screened in the New York Indian Film Festival on June 19, 2025, and then in Austin on June 21, 2025, and in Houston on June 22, 2025. Anupam Kher took to his Instgram account to tell the people that his film is going to be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival.

Plot of the film, Tanvi The Great

Tanvi The Great tells the inspiring story of 'Tanvi Raina', a 21-year-old girl with Autism, who sets out to fulfill her late father's dream, saluting the Indian flag at the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield. Despite her struggles and the doubts of others, 'Tanvi' shows great courage and determination on her difficult journey. Her mission is emotional, challenging and full of heart. Shubhangi Dutt plays the role of 'Tanvi', while actors like Iain Glen, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff and others play other important roles. The film is a tribute to inner strength, dreams and the power of not giving up.

Anupam Kher on the professional front

Anupam Kher began his film journey in 1984 with the movie, Saaransh, where he played an elderly man at just 28 years old. Since then, he has acted in over 500 films in multiple languages. In 2002, he stepped into direction with the film, Om Jai Jagadish. Most recently, he was seen in the film, Vijay 69 and next will be seen in the upcoming film, Metro…In Dino. After this, he will be seen in the most awaited film, The Bengal Files.

Anupam Kher was born on March 7, 1955, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. He grew up in a middle-class Kashmiri Pandit family. He studied at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, which helped him become a trained actor. Anupam Kher got married in 1985 to actress, Kirron Kher and is also the stepfather of actor, Sikandar Kher, who is Kirron’s son from her first marriage. Despite his fame, he is known for his calm and spiritual personality. He has also battled with facial paralysis in his past during the shoot of Hum Aapke Hai Kaun.
