'Anupamaa' Makers Slammed Over Outfit Reuse, Angry Netizens Call Out 'Cheap Copy' Of 'MaAn'

Television’s beloved drama serial, Anupamaa, has once again found itself in the midst of controversy. This time, it is not for actors quitting the show or getting replaced, but for repeating outfits. Fans of the show are livid after spotting the outfits of two major characters, ‘Anupamaa’ and ‘Anuj’ ('MaAn'), being repeated. This revelation has led to a massive backlash, with netizens calling out the makers for recycling costumes and attempting to recreate the irreplaceable chemistry of ‘MaAn’.

Fans call out Anupamaa makers for repeating ‘MaAn’s’ wedding outfits

Recently, pictures and videos of ‘Prem's’ wedding from the serial, Anupamaa surfaced on the internet. In the photos, ‘Prem’ was seen wearing a red sherwani paired with green accessories, which was identical to the one worn by ‘Anuj’ at his wedding. Similarly, ‘Raahi’ was dressed in the iconic white bridal outfit worn by ‘Anupamaa’, complete with matching jewellery. 

This revelation did not sit well with the show’s fans, and they started slamming the makers, Director’s Kut Productions (DKP), for repeating such a significant outfit. One user wrote, "Even copying the outfit won’t help Prem and Raahi become MaAn. This is such a cheap attempt to cash in on nostalgia."

One user commented, "MaAn’s wedding was special. No one can replace them, and definitely not with repeated costumes!" Another user wrote, “I'm missing #MaAn badly..... Dkp q samajh nahi aata bhai....how can they give them same outfit...very angry," read another comment. Taking to their X (formerly Twitter) handle, a user wrote:

“Every Masterpiece has its cheap version meme proved right today. Dkp Doob marro. U copied #MaAn moments, songs, styles even clothes too. At least #Anupamaa ke bangles or #Anujkapadia ki turban panache or turban to baksh dete. Vo bhi churaa lia tumne. DKP (Chor PH) ##Anupama.”

Anupamaa makers struggle to maintain their TRPs after the main actors left the show

This is not the first time that the makers of Anupamaa have received backlash from fans. Over the past couple of years, key actors, such as Gaurav Khanna, who played the male lead, ‘Anuj Kapadia’, Sudhanshu Pandey and Madalsa Sharma have left the show. Following the 15-year leap, Anupamaa has seen a major shift in its narrative. The makers have been introducing several dramatic twists to keep the audience engaged in the show, however, reusing sentimental elements such as wedding outfits has majorly backfired.

What’s next for Anupamaa?

Despite the controversy, the wedding track of ‘Prem’ and ‘Raahi’ is expected to bring high-voltage drama in the show’s upcoming episodes. However, the constant criticism from ‘MaAn’ fans suggests that the showrunners might need to rethink their approach, as viewers are still deeply connected to ‘Anuj’ and ‘Anupamaa’s’ love story. As Anupamaa moves forward, it remains to be seen whether the creators will acknowledge the backlash or continue with their current storytelling choices.
