Cannes Film Festival is a prominent film festival in the world. Top film celebrities like Bella Hadid, Eva Longoria, Naomi Campbell, and Indian icons like Aishwarya Rai, among others, attend it. Considered an exclusive event, walking down the red carpet or attending the event is perceived as a prestigious opportunity for film. However, in the past few years, several Influencers like Ranveer Allahbadia, Nancy Tyagi and Viraj Ghelani who aren't connected to the filmy world were spotted there raising eyebrows. In a recent post, fitness influencer, Anupriya Kapur shared the reality behind such influencer appearances at the Cannes Film Festival.
Content creator, Anupriya Kapur recently took to her Instagram handle and shared a screenshot from an email that proposed different packages for Influencers to pay for attending the Cannes film festival. The offer promised an opportunity for Influencers to gain visibility, networking opportunities and professional Content creation with different pricing of Rs. 8 lakh for mid-level experience and Rs. 12 lakh for elite experience.
Moreover, the document mentioned that the packages would include VIP transport, a red carpet invite, and professional photos and videos with access to the Forbes party. Along with the screenshot, Anupriya wrote that there is no problem if influencers want to pay to grow their brand, but it's wrong when they showcase that they got an invite through some brand or agency when, in reality, they pay for it. It's unclear if she was hinting at a particular Influencer or making a general observation. In her words:
"Just in case you think "Influencers" get "invited" to Cannes and International fashion shows. They have to pay for it and there is nothing wrong in it, but then they pretend they didn't pay and try to act like they are representing the country."
When Anupriya Kapur shared the post on Instagram, it was re-shared on Reddit by some users who began to discuss it. One netizen called out the decision of Influencers to pay Rs. 12 lahks at Cannes and penned, "They pay Rs. 12 lahks to get attention in an international film and then play a 3-minute role as a side character in a thrash Hindi movie." Another user took a dig at Influencers and wrote, "If Komal Pandey and Sidharth Batra go this year, mera bharosa utth jaygea Cannes se."
Over the years, the Cannes Film Festival has become a significant topic of discussion, and the outfits of leading celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Kangana Ranaut have broken the headlines. But, 2024 showcased how the trend has changed with influencers like Masoon Minawala, Ankush Bahuguna, and more shared photos from the prestigious event. Moreover, fashion Influencer Nancy Tyagi became a national sensation and her looks were discussed until months later.
