In an old interview with Filmfare back in 2019, Anushka Sharma talked about opting for a destination wedding, which is very unlikely of a high-profile celebrity duo like her and Virat, who is a prominent cricketer player of India. Talking about their low-key wedding, Anushka said that both she and Virat wanted to keep their marriage very genuine. The actress also added that they never wanted to be reminded that two of the celebrities were getting married, and thus, they never wanted their wedding to be adulterated. Anushka stated:
"We wanted to keep it genuine. We didn’t want it to be adulterated and touched by anything, which would remind us that we’re celebrities.”
Anushka Sharma further explained why she and Virat Kohli chose to avoid the public eye and tie the knot in the presence of their loved ones. The diva, in the same interview, revealed that their wedding was attended by the persons who sacrificed a lot for them and stood beside them through thick and thin.
Anushka also added that if she and Virat would just go public with their wedding, they both would be reminded of their professional identities, which they never actually wanted. The diva stated that when she and Virat fell in love, they didn't even focus on their public standings, and it was the two of their beings who got themselves involved in a pure connection, which they always wanted to feel at their wedding. Calling her wedding surreal, which indeed was, Anushka said:
"We were with our parents and our siblings, who’ve sacrificed so much for us, our closest friends, who’ve supported us through our worst. If we’d allowed it to become public in any way, we would be reminded of our public standing. We didn’t want that. We just wanted to be like two people in love. We never counted for who we were publicly when we fell in love. Our beings fell in love. We wanted to feel that purity at our wedding. That’s why we kept it so close to our hearts and kept it away from anything, which would make us think about anything other than us and the people who were part of this. It was surreal.”
