Recently, Rahman’s, daughter Khatija was trolled for wearing a niqab at an event celebrating the 10-years of Slumdog Millionaire. Khatija shared the stage with Rahman wearing a niqab and soon social media was abuzz with trollers army thinking that Rahman is a hypocrite forcing his daughter to wear niqab.

To address the issue and to raise her voice, Khatija took to her official Facebook and wrote a long post that reads as “The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds. Although, I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation.” (Also Read: Surveen Chawla Enjoys Pyjama-Themed Baby Shower Ceremony During The Last Trimester Of Her Pregnancy)
However, no matter what people say, Rahman never took it seriously! In fact, he slammed the trollers by posting a beautiful picture of the leading ladies in his life on the micro-blogging website, Twitter. The picture shows his wife and another daughter, Raheema, without niqab, along with the picture he wrote, “The precious ladies of my family Khatija, Raheema and Sairaa with NitaAmbaniji #freedomtochoose”. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rahman talked about in detail and said, “These people who said such [negative] things are good people. Sometimes, they are over-concerned. They feel AR Rahman is a part of their family, so why is he doing this or that, so such reactions come from a sense of over-protection.” The Padam Bhushan-awardee further added, “And then they are cool about it. That’s what happened when I told them that my wife and one girl, Raheema, do not wear [niqab] and Khatija wants to, so we are fine with it. It’s her freedom to decide.” (You May Also Like: Neha Kakkar Reveals Reason Behind Her Breakup With Himansh Kohli, Says She's Not Open To Love Again)
The celebrated singer, Rahman also mentioned the fact that all his three-children are mature enough to choose what is right for them. He said, “As long as my children are doing what they believe in and if there is nothing wrong about it, they’ll always have our support. Khatija reflects the purity I want to achieve. She reminds me of my growing-up years. She is very clear about what she wants to do with her life and has travelled across the world, but never faced anything for wearing a niqab. She’s quite cool about it. She wants to work for the betterment of the deprived. I am proud of her.”
He further went on to say, “I’ve let them be. They aren’t new to whatever happens around them because of whoever I am. Initially they’d get a little intimidated but now they’re used to it. I make sure they travel the world and learn things from everywhere. They understand everyone has their own journey. They are mature about what they post [on social media], how they talk and about what I think. [In that sense] They make their own choices.” (Don't Miss: Kriti Sanon Comments On Her Relationship Status With Sushant Singh Rajput, Says She Has Read A Lot)
