The last picture of the couple has gone viral, and eagle-eyed fans noticed that AR Rahman and Saira were last seen together in Radhika Merchant, Anant Ambani's wedding.

On July 12, 2024, AR Rahman posted an adorable picture with Saira Banu. Rahman mentioned that the picture was from Anant and Radhika's July 12, 2024 wedding at the Jio World Convention Centre. Saira had worn a shimmery, ivory beige-hued ghagra set with a dupatta over her head. In comparison, Rahman had worn a navy blue kurta , jacket, white pajama and black glares. One fan wrote, "How many of you'll are here after seeing their separation news." Another one even commented, "Why?" Rahman had also performed at Anant Ambani's wedding reception.

AR Rahman shares an emotional note about his separation

Rahman's fans cannot digest the news that he and Saira Banu have opted for separation. A few hours ago, on November 20, 2024, he had taken to X to mention that he and Saira had hoped to complete thirty years of togetherness. However, it looked like an unseen end. He requested privacy in the shattering moment, where he would try to seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. A part of his emotional tweet read:

"Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter."

Saira Banu's lawyer released an official statement about the couple's separation.

On November 19, 2024, A R Rahman's wife, Saira Banu's lawyer, Vandana Shah, released an official statement regarding the pair's separation. The statement mentioned that after many years of marriage, Mrs Saira made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr AR Rahman. This decision came after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple found that the tensions and difficulties created an insurmountable gap between them, which neither party feels able to bridge. Vandana also mentioned that Mrs Saira emphasized that she had taken this decision out of pain and agony. A part of the statement also read:

"Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life."

AR Rahman had an arranged marriage with Saira Banu in 1995

It was on March 12, 1995, when AR Rahman and Saira Banu married. It was an arranged marriage set up by their families. During an interview with Simi Grewal, Rahman revealed that he had less time to find a life partner because of his busy routine. He was immersed in movies like Roja , Bombay and Rangeela . At 29, he felt it was the right time to settle down. Rahman had also revealed that his mom, Kareema, had met Saira's sister near a Sufi shrine, which is how the families connected. He had called his first meeting as ''funny'' as he had never seen seeking a bride for himself, in that manner. Rahman had then asked Saira if she was interested in marrying him, and she said yes.
