Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey's romantic relationship might have failed to launch in Wicked, but don't worry, because there is still hope for the two. The duo, after bonding over their shared theatre experience while filming for the movie, are reportedly reuniting for the second time as co-stars, albeit on stage. Ariana and Jonathan will be seen in a West End revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical, Sunday in the Park with George. This news was confirmed by Ariana and Jonathan themselves as they both took to Instagram and, in a joint post, shared a photo of themselves sitting in front of Georges Seurat's renowned painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.
Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey definitely had some chemistry when they played ‘Glinda’ and ‘Fiyero’ respectively in the recent adaptation of Wicked and its sequel, Wicked: For Good. Both films have attracted massive fan followings and generated significant online buzz since they hit theatres in the last two years. While Ariana and Jonathan's characters in the films weren't endgame, this did not stop them from establishing a brand new collaboration for the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Ariana and Jonathan teased their return as a pair by sharing a photo on their official Instagram accounts. In the photo, the twosome can be seen sitting in front of Georges Seurat's painting, which the new production will reportedly be based on. Furthermore, they also captioned their post as “All it has to be is good,” which, if you know anything about the musical, are the lyrics from the show's title song.

Soon after the actors made this post, the Barbican Theatre also confirmed the news of the production. Based on reports, the revival of Sunday in the Park with George will be directed by none other than the Tony and Oliver Award winning director, Marianne Elliott, whom you might recognise for his work in the acclaimed gender-swapped revival of Company. Interestingly, Jonathan was also an actor in this show, and his role here earned him an award for best actor in a supporting role in a musical.

The original production of Sunday in the Park with George first lifted its curtains almost four decades ago, in 1984. At the time, the pair who starred in the show were Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin. A year later, owing to the play's popularity, it moved to Broadway in 1986. The play also went on to snag several accolades, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1985 and two Tony Awards.

While the play has seen several other pairings beyond the original two over the years, the new production, which is reportedly targeting a summer 2027 run at the Barbican Theatre in London, will feature Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey in the roles of ‘George’ and ‘Dot’, respectively. Coming to the plot, the play will centre around ‘Georges Seurat’, who is a painter consumed by his need to “finish the hat.” Following this, he will find himself isolated from the people close to him, including his lover and muse, ‘Dot’.
