Reid Wiseman Shared How His Wife Carroll Supported His Career While Battling Cancer '..Getting Sick'

The four crew members have returned to Earth after their historic lunar flyby, which has been named the Artemis II mission. The Artemis III crew will soon be announced. The mission will take place around mid-2027, but ahead of that, the successful operation, Artemis II, has been grabbing attention. With the mission, the four astronauts, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen, marked the first time that humans set foot on the moon in 53 years since Apollo 17.

Reid Wiseman was the commander of Artemis II, and his story has been grabbing the attention ever since the mission was announced. For the unversed, apart from being an astronaut, Reid Wiseman is a son, a single dad, and a widower. In several interviews, Reid has spoken about his life and shared details about his duty as a single dad to his two teenage daughters.

Reid Wiseman's wife, Anne Carroll Taylor Wiseman supported his career despite battling cancer

Reid Wiseman lost his wife, Carroll, due to cancer, and in an interview, he shared how his wife actually supported his career even when she was battling cancer. Reid Wiseman got married to Anne Carroll Taylor Wiseman in 2003. The duo has two daughters, Ellie and Katherine. Anne Carroll Taylor Wiseman was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and was a registered nurse who, according to her husband's bio, dedicated her life to helping others as an NICU registered nurse.

It was in 2020 that Carroll passed away due to breast cancer. While she was battling cancer, she was still adamant to be a support system for her husband and his career, as shared by Reid himself. Speaking to CBS, Reid Wiseman said that when his wife was getting really sick, he decided that he would move back to where his family was from. However, Carroll didn't agree with the same, as he wanted her husband to carry on with his job and didn't want anything to distract him. To quote Reid Wiseman:

"When she really started getting sick, I wanted to move us back towards where her family was from. And she’s like, ‘No, this is where you work. This is the job you love. This is where you work, and this is where our kids are growing up, and we are going to stay right here.’ To me, that was marching orders… to continue down this path."

Anne Carroll Taylor Wiseman was reportedly diagnosed with cancer after Reid Wiseman's first spaceflight

According to her All Obituaries page, Carroll was a graduate of First Colonial High School, James Madison University, and Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed her graduation as a pediatric nurse practitioner, and she started working at Children’s Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) and as a school nurse in Patuxent River, MD and later in Friendswood, TX. Reportedly, it was in 2014, when during Reid Wiseman's first spaceflight, Carroll was diagnosed with cancer, which she battled for five years and passed away on May 17, 2020.

On April 6, 2026, the crew members of Artemis II spotted a moon crater, and it was the mission specialist Jeremy Hansen, who mentioned that a couple of years ago, they started this journey with the close-kint astronaut family, and during the time, someone close to them (Carroll) passed away, and thus, as a special tribute, they would like to name the moon crarter after single dad, Reid Wiseman's wife, Carroll. According to NASA, after the crew returned to Earth, they would submit the crater name proposal to the International Astronomical Union.

What do you think about Carroll's way of supporting Reid Wiseman's career even when she was battling a deadly disease?
