Aryan Khan Opens Up On Self-Deprecating Jokes In 'The Ba***ds Of Bollywood', 'Made An Effort Not...'

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s son, Aryan Khan has made a blockbuster entry in Bollywood as a director with his debut series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. When the series was released on Netflix, it managed to dominate all over social media platforms within hours. One of the major highlights of the show was the self-deprecating jokes that Aryan made on himself. Recently, he opened up about the same.

Aryan Khan opens up about keeping self-deprecating jokes rather than disrespectful ones

In a recent chat with Variety, the director of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan opened up about his show and the jokes in it. For the unversed, the series grabbed a lot of attention for its inspiration from real-life incidents. Talking about the same, Aryan Khan revealed that he had taken inspiration from multiple places but in the series, they were exaggerated. He was quoted as saying:

"We were pushing it for screen, obviously, but obviously there’ll be things that are inspired. There’ll be scenes that are inspired on certain realities, and there’ll be exaggerations. It’s not obviously a documentary."

He continued to talk about the self-deprecating jokes in the series, like the jail scene, his introduction after the dialogue, “Say no to drugs”, or the scene where Maheep Kapoor asks daughter, Shanaya Kapoor to smile for cameras and not behave like Aryan. Regarding the same, he explained that he wanted to spread love without being disrespectful to anyone, which is why he preferred jokes about himself. In his words:

"We wanted to be self-deprecating, but not disrespectful anywhere. So I think we maintained that line correctly, and the guardrails were self-imposed, mostly because, making something about the industry and being a part of the industry, there has to be- there is a lot of respect. People being able to take jokes on themselves, I feel, is the first and most important thing about comedy. Take a joke on yourself and then spread the love. People were extremely sporting, and we also made an effort not to push boundaries in terms of being disrespectful, only being self-deprecating."
