Asha Boshle's sudden passing on Sunday, April 12, 2026, has left a permanent void in the Indian music industry. With a career spanning more than eight decades, Asha had not only shaped the soundscape of Hindi cinema but also that of cinema beyond it. The news of Asha's death was confirmed by Dr. Pratit Samdani from Breach Candy Hospital. According to him, the legendary singer passed away at the hospital due to multi-organ failure.
For those unaware, Asha had reportedly been admitted on Saturday evening, on April 11, 2026, following extreme exhaustion and chest infection. While many people in the industry are mourning the death of Asha, it is Helen's recollection of the iconic singer that caught our attention.
Veteran actress, Helen and Asha Bhosle's partnerships are most infamous among cinema lovers. Now, after Asha passed away suddenly on April 12, 2026, Helen expressed her deep grief while speaking to Hindustan Times. She told the outlet, “This is shocking. She was so healthy, and we had been in touch. I am feeling terrible and short of words.” Helen added that they had a long friendship. The actress recalled how Adha would modulate her voice and “add that oomph to my songs”, which made it more enjoyable to perform. She said, “We have lost a gem.”
In an earlier interview, while she was alive, Asha had confessed that Helen was her favourite leading lady. Apparently, at the time, she thought Helen was so pretty that she had to stop singing and look at her the moment she entered the room. Asha even said that if she were a man, she “would have eloped with her.” Now that Asha Bhosle has left this world for the heavenly abode, Helen stated that she was instrumental in making her who she is today. To quote her words:
“My dearest Ashaji has left me; may her beautiful soul rest in peace. She was instrumental in making me who I am. She always invited me for her shows and events, which I attended. I thank RD Burman and her for the beautiful music they gave me. On behalf of all her followers and mine too, I pray her soul rests in peace.”
It is worth noting that Helen and Asha Bhosle had collaborated in more than 270 songs. This includes timeless hits like O Haseena Zulfonwali (Teesri Manzil, 1966), Aa Jaane Jaan (Intaqam, 1969), Piya Tu Ab To Aaja (Caravan, 1971), Mehbooba Mehbooba (Sholay, 1975), to name a few. Even today, we can all agree that Helen and Asha's partnership was one of glamour, rhythm, and unmatched screen presence.

On April 11, 2026, it was revealed that Asha Bhosle was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. While initial reports had suggested her hospitalisation was the result of a cardiac arrest, they were later dismissed by her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle. In a note posted to Instagram, Zania has clarified: “My grandmother, Asha Bhosle, has been admitted to the hospital due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection, and we request you to respect our privacy. Treatment is ongoing, and we hope everything will be well. We will keep you updated with positive news.”
Hours after Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, her son, Anand, shared her funeral details. He said that Asha's funeral will take place on April 13, 2026, at Shivaji Park, Mumbai, at 4:00 pm. He even mentioned that fans of the iconic singer who want to pay their respects to her one last time can visit Asha's Mumbai residence in Lower Parel on Monday at 11:00 pm.
