'Chhaava' Fame, Ashutosh Rana Fell Head-Over-Heels In Love With Divorced, Renuka Shahane

Chhaava has crossed over Rs. 100 crore marker within just four days of its release. Vicky Kaushal leads the film as 'Sambhaji' and Rashmika Mandanna as 'Maharani Yesuba'. The film also sees Akshaye Khanna taking on the role of 'Aurangzeb' while Ashutosh Rana is playing 'Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite'. The movie is an adaptation of Shivaji Sawant's Marathi novel. While fans are in awe of the movie and its strong characters that have left a mark, let's take a look at Ashutosh Rana's real-life love story.

Ashutosh Rana fell in love with divorced Renuka Shahane, breaking all stereotypes 

In the '90s and early 2000s, people had many societal notions. In those times, divorce wasn't considered nice, and people who were divorced were looked down upon. However, in the case of Ashutosh Rana and famous actress Renuka Shahane, this tag never existed.

Not many know that Renuka Shahane was earlier married to a Marathi theatre director, Vijay Kenkare. However, she met Aushtosh Rana at the film preview of Hansal Mehta. While the movie was never made, it definitely helped the two meet, and it marked their new beginning. 

How Ashutosh convinced Renuka to confess her love

Ashutosh went to the preview with his friends, who, fortunately, were Renuka's friends as well. The two instantly got attracted to each other and shared similar tastes. Ashutosh asked the director, Ravi Rai, for Renuka's number and was instructed not to contact her after 9 p.m. and that he must leave a message on an answering machine. 

However, in order to wish Dussehra, Ashutosh left a message on her answering machine in the hope that she would find a way to contact him. As soon as Renuka received the message, she responded with a message to his sister and gave her phone number, which was the start of their friendship. 

In an interview with The Lallanatop, Ashutosh revealed that they would talk on the phone for several hours and three times a day. The actor was hesitant about proposing his love to Renuka for fear of the actress not reciprocating the same feelings. Ashutosh decided to confess his emotions with a poem about love. He recited it to Renuka, and soon she confessed her love for him.  

Renuka Shahane feared getting married 

After dating each other for three years, Ashutosh and Renuka got married at the insistence of the former's father in 2001. However, Renuka was hesitant as her first experience of marriage wasn't a pleasant one. She has learnt a lot from her broken marriage. By the time she got married to Ashutosh, she had reached the age of 34-35 and had become mature by then.
