Avinash Tiwary has become a fan-favourite in recent years for his powerful performances across films and web series. He first caught the attention of the audience in Imtiaz Ali’s Laila Majnu, where he portrayed a passionate and heartbroken 'Majnu' opposite Triptii Dimri, which earned him widespread appreciation and national fame. Since then, he has continued to take on complex and layered characters in shows and movies like Bulbbul, Khakhee: The Bihar Chapter, Bambai Meri Jaan, and Kaala.
He is known for diving deep into his roles and often goes through major physical and emotional changes to fit his characters. This dedication sometimes results in striking differences in his appearance from one project to another. Naturally, these changes spark a lot of discussion and conversations online, some of it positive, but some not so kind. Recently, Avinash faced body-shaming comments about his looks, and here’s how the actor chose to respond.
The controversy began on Instagram when Pakistani writer and celebrity stylist, Rao Ali Khan decided to comment under a post. In his comment, he was talking about Avinash’s performance in his series, Bambi Meri Jaan. While he was appreciating the series, it didn’t stop Rao Ali from body-shaming Avinash. Rao Ali asked Avinash why is he supporting belly fat in his new project, he could be quoted as saying:
"Loved Bombay Meri Jaan. Was thinking why do you have belly fat in Khakhee and Bombay Meri Jaan both. Happy to see fitter body – super super."
Rao Ali did not stop here and left a follow-up comment under the same post. His comment drew attention from fans for being disrespectful, and insensitivity, especially the fact that it was coming from a public figure, upset many. He added how he loved Bombay Meri Jaan but advised Avinash to lose weight and look fit.
The comment was noticed by Avinash, and he didn’t stay silent. He addressed the comment with a direct reply and clapped back in an extremely respectful manner. He made it clear that he does not appreciate any unnecessary and ill-researched information regarding his physical appearance. In his reply, he wrote:
"Sir, you are a journalist… if you had done any research you would know it was for the part... I suggest get beyond the idea of just vanity for cinema. Thank you."

With this, Avinash made it clear that the weight gain was a conscious and professional choice he had made for his character, and not a matter of neglecting his fitness. Back in October 2023, a month after the release of Bambai Meri Jaan, he had already shared that his transformation was intentional, he could be quoted as saying:
"I decided to gain weight, grow hair, no vanity, no grooming to ensure that he never appeared desirable."
Fans and followers flooded the comments section in support of Avinash. Many praised him for maintaining grace while addressing the body-shaming remark. Social media users appreciated the fact that he didn’t stoop to personal attacks but stood up for himself and for other actors who go through physical changes for the sake of authenticity. One user wrote, ‘Slay!’ while the other commented, ‘Clock it King.'
Avinash continues to grow as an actor and make bold career choices. He will soon be seen in Ginny Weds Sunny 2, where he will star opposite 12th Fail fame actress, Medha Shankar. Fans are expecting him to bring something fresh once again to the screen and his upcoming projects are already generating buzz among his fans.
