Babil Khan has been making headlines with his latest release, Logout, on Zee5. The film was released on April 18, 2025. While the audience contemlates the actor's performance in the movie, Babil opened up about his parents, Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar's parenting style when it came to technology.
Babil Khan has been busy promoting his film, Logout and discussing the impact of digital devices. The film is a screen-life thriller that acts as a cautionary about the dangers of increasing social media reach. During the promotion, Babil also opened up about his childhood and his access to digital technology.
During the conversation, Babil revealed that he was given immense freedom. However, that would all go away when it came to materialism. He shared that his parents, Sutapa Sikdar and Irrfan Khan, didn't even give him a smartphone. He recalled that he received his first basic phone when he was 15, so he could be in touch with his parents. Babil further added that it wasn't until he got into university that his parents gave him his first smartphone. He was quoted as saying:
"Mere ghar par mujhe sab kuch milta in terms of freedom, par kuch nahi milta tha, in terms of materialism. Mujhe kabhi bhi smartphone nahi diya gaya…Mujhe kabhi bhi PlayStation nahi diya gaya."
In the same conversation, Babil Khan elaborated on how his parents, Sutapa Sikdar and Irrfan Khan were influenced by the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. He revealed that this philosophy kept him away from anything that could prove to be a hinderance in his natural growth and development. Babil further added that his daily routine was also the farthist from typical and included skipping, gardening, and painting classes, ensuring he had a childhood free from distractions.
In the same conversation, Babil Khan shared how his parents' unconventional ways, as exemplified by Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar, helped shape his perspective on life. He added that this made him more attuned to the world around him, and kept him from being consumed by technology. He credited these initiatives by his parents for the focus and discipline he has towards his career. He concluded by stating that it was this real, no-frill upbringing that makes him so relatable to audience from all walks of life.
