How Did Baek Se-hee Die? 35-Year-Old Author Donated Organs At Hospital Where She Was Born

Famous South Korean author Baek Se-hee's novels, I Want to Die But I Want To Eat Tteokbokki and I Want To Die But I Still Want To Eat Tteokbokki, gained worldwide love. However, every soul who was touched by her work is mourning the 35-year-old's shocking demise on October 16, 2025. 

Baek Se-hee death reason 

At the age of 35, Baek Se-hee left for the heavenly abode. However, the cause of her death was not made public immediately after her death, but some reports claim that Baek Se-hee didn't regain consciousness after being declared brain dead. Other details of her passing were kept under wraps.  

It was later revealed that Baek Se-hee signed up for organ donation. According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency, the 35-year-old author's heart, lungs, liver and both her kidneys were recovered at National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital following her death. It is worth mentioning that she was born in the same hospital in Gyeonggi Province, north of Seoul, South Korea. 

Baek was the eldest of the three siblings. One of her siblings penned a sweet parting note and prayed for her to rest comfortably in the sky, and recalled how she shared her heart with people through her writing. The note can be read as:

"Older sister, who shared hearts with people through writing. Knowing your kind heart that loved much and could not hate anyone, now rest comfortably in the sky. I love you so much."

As per a report in The Korea Herald, Baek See-hee's younger sister revealed that the author wanted to write and share her heart with others through her work. She wanted to inspire hope in people. She hoped that she could rest in peace. Baek Se-hee's younger sister said:

"Baek wanted to write, to share her heart with others through her work, and to inspire hope. Knowing her gentle nature, incapable of harboring hatred, I hope she can now rest peacefully."

Baek Se-hee was suffering from dysthymia, a mild but persistent depression

It is worth mentioning that Baek Se-hee was diagnosed with dysthymia, which is a mild but persistent depression. Her best-selling book, I Want To Die But I Want To Eat Tteokbokki, is a compilation of her conversation with her psychiatrist. As a part of her healing, she documented it and turned it into a personal memoir. It was a rage as people who struggled with depression and anxiety found a voice, and that they were not alone.

Baek Se-hee was born in 1990, and she had studied creative writing at university. She had worked at a publishing house for five years. It is worth mentioning that she had received psychiatric treatment for dysthymia for ten years. She was diagnosed with persistent mild depression. It was the main subject of her two famous books, I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki, and I Want to Die but I Still Want to Eat Tteokbokki. Her favourite food was tteokbokki.

Baek Se-hee wanted to change the world with her writing, and now, she lives on forever with her novels that are going to touch souls for generations to come!
